Aaaanyway.....

'I have to say' I think this is a nail in the coffin for Radio 1.

There really is nothing groundbreaking or interesting left. I mean, don't get me wrong, there hasn't been much for quite some time (if ever..), but in terms of new, challenging, exciting, creative music...this is the biggest loss for them since Peel. Whether they know that though, remains to be seen.
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

Not sure if you are including 1xtra as well, but seriously, Benji B's show is ranked up there with MAH's. Gilles Peterson's show is really good too. So to say that there is nothing left is a bit of an exaggeration, but Gilles and Benji are the only two left that are any good really.

You are a moron

There could be a poll on here of people who discovered dubstep due to Mary Anne Hobbs and it would be a substantial percentage.

Who else has done so much to promote the sound to a new audience in the UK and worldwide?

Get an education before you post stupid shit like that you fool.

if you have anything that can compare to that, let me know. have some decency and understand that this day is not a day to be taking some internet shots just to make yourself look good. this is mary's day. let her have it.

As for Radio 1, Rob Da Bank plays plenty of interesting stuff too... but yeah, MAH's are some mighty big shoes to fill.

What a bunch of pussies you all are! I was into Dubstep way before MAH was playing it on radio 1 and then I left UK to live in a country that doesn't stream it. Why would I have any interest in her? If you lot need the help of a national radio station to discover new music, then I pity you! Quit crying.. there's dozen's of people lining up to replace her!

I wasn't including 1xtra in that...They've got some great DJs on there...with giving guys like Swindle shows, it proves at least they have one hear to the street.

If I'm honest, I'd forgotten about Gilles. And yeah, I agree he is still doing his thing...but still...1 great show left. This is supposed to be the pinnacle of modern Radio. Breaking the new, original artists...

I've not listened to Radio 1 (MAH/ Gilles Peterson listen agains aside) for quite a few years because of it's poor quality content. Quite frankly I feel sorry for the people who listen, thinking the countries most incredible Radio station - let's be honest...in theory, for what it is (supposedly) there to provide, it is - is giving them the best of the best new new music for young people. When in reality, that's (on the whole) just not what's happening.

surely the first part of that sentence proves that you are in the worst possible position to make the claim in the second part of that sentence.

she brought dubstep (among many other global musical movements over the past 14 years) to a much wider audience, helping them to flourish. focussing on more soulful music as well as dance, rather than rinse which is more urban body music.

she was one of a kind and hopefully she has taught a lot of people how to be open minded about music and look for their own new music.

i can't imagine her just fading out of the scene. i wonder what she'll do next. thank you mary-anne :z:

Its safe to say without Breezeblock/Experimental I wouldn't of "properly" got into dubstep, sure I listened to it and enjoyed it but 'dubstep wars' changed my life! (first time hearing ruffage :O!.... wasn't that the first bit of airplay ruffage got?) and then did it again with generation bass, when I thought dubstep was getting tiresome it breathed fresh air into my lungs !

Other than dubstep, the show got me into Fly-lo, Daedalus, Nathan Fake and a string of other artists. While hearing that enchanting voice :U:

Out to misses Hobbs, a true soldieress!

I don't think Mary Anne Hobbs has got that much people into Dubstep, unless you were already listening to her shows for the experimental stuff.

What she did do though, is provide a looking glass into some amazing music for those who were just dipping their toe into the sound.

A sad day, someone who pushed dubstep's cerebral side in the best way. A proper legend.

mrbeatnick wrote:sorry not trying to imply that. just saying, relegating the specialist shows to the graveyard shift was the stupidest move they've ever made at radio 1.
when i discovered dubstep, she was a big inspiration to me.
she was so inspirational, that i turned a chance and became dj in national broadcasting in cz.
i fully agree with you about this night specialist shows. she fully deserved a prime time in bbc1.
and i would say that such sudden decision just point out to some internal bbc problems.
i hope she is doing well and will stay with community that love her.
hope to listen some "MAH sónar weekly show" soon.
