What disturbs you most about Dubstep

Post by Runna and Cricky » Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:32 pm

First I' like to say hi :t: ,I'm quite new to this forum , I have been lurking around here for a month already and learned a lot .
I think you guys have also noticed that everyone leaves boring comments on your soundcloud tracks like "nice bruvva" or "big up"
Especially "big up" is what disturbs me most. I saw a track where 21 users commented "big up" or "big up ,this is big" .
The second thing is that everyone uses the same datsik bassline , belive me , using it in every single track wont get you anywhere ;) , listening to soundcloud tracks is getting boring already because of that.

if you just rely on youtube and "filth" producers you are barely scratching the surface
you might wanna check out people and labels that put out vinyl to start

that it's being split into a childish spat between the filth wobblers and the deep potheads

what's wrong with liking both? and all the other stuff which doesn't fit either?

absolutely nothing
i just find it cringeworthy that you can claim to like a music just from youtubing dubstep or what a facebook group or something says
kinda goes to show the impact social networking is having on music as opposed to actual networking

Nonono , don't get me wrong . There are a lot of good producers here and everywhere else . But there are a few exceptions .Lately I hear the same Datsik bass in everywhere and it's getting annoying.
I've been listening to Dubstep since I was 12 < Not a joke :D .

Sunk , Dubstep is still BIG , but a little bit different than before ;)

I mean the Dub aspect is very hard to find in a lot of productions. There's a smaller group now who are holding it down.
Although I guess that makes it an easier niche to break into :6:

Step = originally the 2 step garagey vibes that made tracks sound bouncy and make you wanna dance. Soundcloud wobblers do not include such rhythms and rely on heavily non-syncopated boring drum patterns.

Dub = although can refer to dub reggae, it is used more commonly in this style to refer to dubs of songs, (Tracks that have no vocal parts). This name was given because of the split from more mainstream garage/grime which were centered around the mc/vocals.

So in a sense if people keep up the pop vocal remix, they'll have managed to eliminate both sides :)

It's a bit like writing D'n'B without any drums and very much lacking in the bass department. but it's at 177 bpm ;)

The only thing what disturbs me about dubstep is these major labels doing compilations consisiting of 80% remixes and 20% original tracks... And them all being the same vibe!

:u:

Oh and the fact that deeper nights are spread way to far and thin!

Right although most youtubestep doesn't even fit in with the more broader definition of dub as accentuating the different instruments in the mix and playing the desk like an instrument in terms of arranging. I hear a lot of "WABBLEWABBLEWABBLE I stay the same for 64 bars at a time and I'm the only thing in the mix apart from the sparse kick and snare so nothing else gets in the way of my WABBLEWABBLEWABBLE"
Ain't Dubstep it's monotony-step. Change some shit up for once! Sure it might be instrumental but it doesn't really support the dub vibe.

You're right about the drums as well, I don't know when people decided that kick - 1, snare - 3 satisfied the 'step' criteria or the criteria of "interesting drums"

drums that sound like they've been ripped from some lame 80s rock and fed on steroids, i.e no swing, syncopation etc. kinda like a lot of drum n bass.
