Hey Phigure
:) it's quite empty now because i just posted the blog live last night - but it will be regularly updated with tutorials and articles related to Massive.
Actually the patches were the first thing i created, then i thought i could do a blog... so yep the patches are up there but that's not the reason for the blog, just because they were the first content created.

I listened to the demos of the patches, and they all sounded verrrry same-y. I could have sworn i was listening to the same patch set for each of the demos. :?

Hey Depone - thanks for listening!

I think that me playing the same chord each time probably doesn't help :)
I really like the dub techno style synth stabs and most of my sounds start life as such or with this sound in mind. If you listen to my music i think i may be guilty of the same thing there too (using similar sounds between tracks).
I guess i just love that saw wave stabs!

I also tend to use similar filter settings and i have a couple of wavetables that i keep going back too.
Also the bit crush effect i use a lot.

I take your comment on board and will remember it in future. My next set was going to be drones or drums - not sure yet, so will be quite different in sound :D

Thanks again for listening though.

Tutorial: Using 'noise' to create atmosphere with Massive

Post by breakitdown » Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:33 am

Hey guys,

Here is my second tutorial: Using 'noise' to create atmosphere with Massive.

http://www.massivesynth.com/tutorials/n ... tmosphere/

As per my dub techno stab tutorial (also on the blog), i have typed out the settings for how to create the patch and also some suggestions on how to enhance it. Rather than just give away the patch, creating it yourself should open up some doors to making sounds with Massive!

I hope it is off some help to someone.

Tutorial: Using Envelopes to manipulate sound in NI Massive

Post by breakitdown » Sun Aug 01, 2010 3:33 pm

Hey,

Here is my latest tutorial for Native Instruments Massive - How to use Envelopes to manipulate sounds. I plan on doing a short series, 1 on each of the modulators (Envelopes, LFO's, Stepper and Performer) and how they can be used with Massive. First up are Envelopes.

I don't want to start clogging up these forums with weekly tutorials for Massive - so if you guys prefer i create one Thread and update rather than post a new thread every time - let me know and i'll sort it out.

http://www.massivesynth.com/tutorials/e ... ate-sound/

I hope this of use to someone!

Youtube video would be hella sweet to go along with these. Written text is always great to go along, but I'm certainly a video - eyes on approach type person.

I guess if they say a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is like a billion? ;)

Hey, thanks!

I'm looking at some screen recording software right now... anyone got any recommendations?
How are these things edited - some I've seen show when the person clicks, zoom in on certain functions or add text over the video - i'm not really sure how that's done! Still investigating... but it's coming.

I also have a new section of the site coming very soon - it's going to be on the topic of sound design in general (outwith Massive) and each post in it will be a guest post from a well know producer talking about sound design ideas, influences of their sound and how they learnt about synthesis amongst other things.

Tutorial: Using Stepper creatively in Massive

Post by breakitdown » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:32 am

Hey,

Here is my latest tutorial for Native Instruments Massive.

This time around we will be using the Stepper modulator to control Oscillator pitch and effects within Massive. The effect can be applied to just about anything in Massive and can open up doors to some very interesting rhythmic devices and textures... Very handy when programming Massive!

By the way -
I've added more pictures as this was requested by a lot of readers.
Video tutorials coming soon!

nice one-- the stepper is a great part of passive and woefully underutilized.

Thanks guys!
Yeah i don't hear about it being used much!
This tutorial is fairly simple, but the technique can be applied to many things.

You might also like this bass patch i posted over the weekend - It's a subby bass patch... i rebuilt one of the presets , stripped it right back and made it a bit simpler.
