That sure sounds like the definition of mainstream dubstep to me.say_whut wrote: Just because it says "Generation Dubstep" doesn't mean it is dubstep. That compilation is a bunch of pop song remixes drenched in drums and wobble.
It doesn't mean your definition of dubstep is mainstream though if that's what you're afraid of.

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

Re: when did dubstep become mainstream?
It's true that the 'real' or 'good' dubstep is underground still. The commercial, 'filth' and remixes are now mainstream. Although Ministry of Sound have been responsible for the exposure to actual decent dubstep from producers like Artwork, Mala, Noah D etc.

Re: when did dubstep become mainstream?
the thing is though, i think people will complain either way.
if some kid has never heard of DMZ, people will laugh at them and shake their heads "oh the kids these days, they have no idea". but in the same breath tell you they don't want dubstep to sell out. it's a strange catch 22 . i don;t entirely have a solution either so , fuck me

Re: when did dubstep become mainstream?
plenty of good non-mainstream dubstep out there - though good luck hearing it in the dance!
He danced for eighteen hours staring straight into the sun, until at length a great vision came... He believed the world was made of shadow and that he could dream himself into the real world that lay beyond...
Re: when did dubstep become mainstream?
its a myriad of things but i think one that is overlooked is that in a sense some of these underground cats start of with grimey unrefined styles! naturally instead of letting the style stale out they learn new techniques and shit and it just sounds more polished for one and two alot of artist are using vocalist cause who wouldnt like the chance to have some good vocals over a fitting tune
