I am brand new to this thing, I actually d/led a BunZer0 mix by accident and couldn't stop listening to it. I thought it was interesting but wasn't really into it until Ramadanman - Agreement (Parson rmx). That tune made my sub do things it's never done before. After that it was ovah.

I'm hooked.

I'd heard just the tiniest sliver of the sound, really starting from a little tune called I Luv U, then did what research I could at the time, and went out shopping armed with no knowledge.

I came back with a handful of records like Ugly/Da Wrath, Jam Night, Asia, Elektro/Afrika, Saddam, Zombie/Thriller Funk, etc. So stuff like that really started it out for me.

This was also the time of Our Sound, Knowledge, Wavescape, etc. Any one remember Tropical Rub?

I suppose you could say Wonder - What but really it was Skream - Midnight Request Line like every grime fan who turned their nose up at dubstep for so long.

i'm not sure when dubstep came into my consciousness. I was into the darker garage of zed bias & wookie etc., but I started buying the earlier tempa/soulja/shelflife releases withouth really putting the two together. My local shop was getting 1 white label promo of soulja/tempa stuff from SRD and I'd usually pick them up. Prob the 1st time I was aware I was buying 'dubstep' was around the time of Highland Spring or Rain Dance - up until then I was just calling it dark garage or something.

big track for me

Post by boney » Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:16 pm

the first grime e.p. on rephlex - especially Plasticman - 'death by stereo'

massive track!!

Also - Goldspot Productions - Party, Dub Express and Highland Spring

Seeing Hatcha and others play my first FWD with Ms Dynamite mc'ing after blagging me and my mates in saying we were Xfm winners!!... a blag that is still usable at some venues to this day. Pure Gold :D
