the only thing about the comp is listening to alllll those tunes using the same samples, in a tune battle theres only 2 tunes to listen to. this is probably why it got less votes than the basic a/nowaysj tune battle this month.

well if it's only between me and you...there's a couple of options:

take my word for it that i'm starting the tune from scratch, just like i'll take your word for it. i mean ffs it's not a big deal i have no reason to lie about starting from scratch and neither do you.

but yea if it's between 3/4/5 of us, then i agree, something needs to be worked out.

however.....

we could actually just do a collab instead. i've never actually done one of these before. the way to do it would be one of us make a nice big fat juicy sample pack (i have a ridiculous amount of samples). then i could send the samples to you, you start the tune. then you get the ball rolling, start the structure of the track, bounce them all to individual audio files and send them to me. from here i could add my own little touches, perhaps my own bassline that switches with your bassine ect. then send it back to you for your final tweaks. finally back to me for my final tweaks. using soundcloud's pm function, sendspace and winrar, this would actually be really easy. bam, finished tune.

maybe i'm missing something, but how exactly? I can see how it would be fun and/or good for someone's ego, which is fine and I don't really have a problem with that, but I'm not sure what's actually productive about it from a learning process point of view.

nothing. it's just another way of getting someone to make a beat to a deadline. and without deadlines i'm lazy as fuck at finishing tunes.

:!: Enter the competition and then have a poll between your two tunes after wards. This way you get the same samples and have a deadline for it. You might not win the whole thing but then you will get feedback on your individual tunes once you put up the poll.

Yeah maybe I should just get involved in the next samplepack comp...

Collab sounds like a more productive idea though, we should get on that instead... Pm incoming later! I'm on my phone at the minute

basic a/nowaysj got votes because it was a spontaneous battle that was interesting and very jokes to all involved (well except for basic and noway  )

immediately after that some members wanted to do the same thing only in a very contrived way (and obviously simply for the attention of it) - and that got shot down, for the obvious reason

now you're talking about a concept that is extremely similar to the sample pack contest which is very organized and has a long running history - but with only 2 participants (because you think 2 tunes would easily get, ahem, more attention) - but in fact.. the sample pack contest is actually more challenging, you're battling far more producers and different styles

on top of that it doesn't seem like you even have a clear idea about HOW it would work, just that, you want a battle and people to listen to/vote on your tune - when there's already an organized tune battle, the sample pack contest

make the side battle work somehow if you want. I'm not really interested tho. imo

i've got an idea for general rules, or a code of honor or something like that.

A challenges B. B can choose to accept the battle, or not to. (in the latter case A will probably call him a pussy...)
so if B accepts, he is allowed to set a rule for the battle. that could be "no movie samples" or "150-160 bpm!!" or something like "no minor scales". basically anything's allowed. now it's A's turn again to either say "no way dude, not that way" and bam, the battle is over OR to say "bring it on!"
the fight itself would be 1 week of time, track made from scratch, obey the rules or be disqualified.

of course using your brain is the most important rule, if you challenge someone who's on a holiday and call him a pussy for declining you're not the winner, you're a jerk

oh my god i swear in my head it wasnt that complicated

make it work then

don't see why you make a thread talking about battles when there's a sticky about it up top

just seems like you're on some "hey look at me" type

not relevant to production. imo

what? how is it not relevant to production?!

its much more relevant to production than continually posting negative stuff in a thread about something that youve got no interest in. if you dont like it, go away. theres been enough positive responses in this thread to show that there IS people here who are interested in something like this. just because you arent one of them, dont bring a downer on it for everyone else.

obviously if i just set up some rules myself, and was like, "ok lets run some tune battles the way i want them to be", then people wouldnt be feeling it for whatever reason, which is why we are DISCUSSING it, to set up a decent way of doing them (not just talking down other peoples ideas).

im not trying to draw attention to myself, just trying to get something going on here... get off my balls man!

youre obviously just scared

EDIT: and the sticky is really about all the aggro that goes on on here. im not trying to start tune battles to get people beefing with each other, but because some of us find it easier to work to a deadline, and a goal to aim for. if thats not you, fair play, dont bother coming in this thread again.

also, its easier to match the ability of 2 producers than it is to match the skill level of everyone in the samplepack comp. theres some sick producers on here, and some of us who are still in the early stages of learning. the samplepack comp can be a bit daunting for those of us who are still young guns in this game!

nah fuck off youre not invited anymore

only joking

i think im gonna get on this collab with Wikum first, but if you wanna do a battle at a later date im up for that. or if theres anyone else you want to do one with, or anyone wants to do one with you, then id be happy to help you set it up, make a samplepack for both of you, etc.

sorry mate, i dont mean to come across as a prick, its just time the negative energy that runs rife on here was channeled into something more productive!

I'm off of producing atm but I think a good way to do it would be each guy makes 3 loops and then mix em into one entry instead of getting them to make a whole song in the space of a week

I mean instead of making a whole song in a week just make 3 short loops (4 lots of 16 bars or whatever) then mix them and use that instead of a whole song

get me?
