i think the best thing about all this is its totally unquantifiable. people on here can get as much out of drexiciya as they can from larry heard, from dj rashad to doc daneeka to ben ufo to roska to mood II swing to nightslugs to kerri chandler to dego to afronaught. it reminds me of the best period of the early 2000s when labels and tags got really thrown up in the air and people started mashing the influences together. House is a nice choice of description just because it summarises the optimism and general "up feeling" of this music.

I think the only reason people might tend to distance themselves from the word dubstep nowadays (myself included) is because your average clubber even going to less mainstream nights expects the jump up/aggy stuff. I still play it but i'm generally a pretty vague when people ask me what I play

I don't distance myself from Dubstep, I simply don't listen to much anymore. Last thing I bought was Mala LP and the only other thing I can see me getting excited about is Zomby Eski tracks

That's still 0.5% of the world of House music though, do you get my point? If this truely was a House music forum it would be 50 times as big with scores of subforums. This is just the forum for guys who used to post on DSF but got tired of bullshit but still liked eachothers company.. I post here a lot and read and get great tips from here.. would I consider myself a house music guy? not really.

i dont need it to be a House forum like you're suggesting. what's the real issue here? i am getting confused. i see a closer relationship between a lot of music on here and house than with dubstep and i've seen posts here from people who rarely have or do visit the main forum. it's not just some old ex-dubsteppers reunion / whinge-a-thon. i'm sensing a general unwillingness to use House as a blanket term to cover a whole range of stuff. i dont think it's meant as a strict definition but more a signpost.

Some journalist will sort all this out sooner or later, and then we can have a proper whinge-a-thon..

I don't know anyone on DSF personally, mostly kept to myself and help promote releases I'm into at the moment.

But I've found so much new music here and this place means a lot to me. So I'd definitely help in any way I could :D:

I think room 2 is a good name for this sub forum cos then more people might come in here, as i can imagine people being like 'I like martyn, joy orbison and some steppy shuffley stuff, but i dont like house thats shit, so i wont go in there' and being room 2 might entice them. but then even now you get people coming in here mentioning electro house and fidget house and not really getting any comments on it, and thats kinda house, its even in the name! but then it doesnt seem very welcome here.

also garage and 'future garage' gets talked about in here, but then house come i dont here much about synkro and the likes in here, it has the swing and shuffle, yet because it is kinda darker and doesnt really fit with house it doesnt get mentioned here. so is it a good idea changing the name as then you may get posts in here that no one in here wants cos it doesn fit with house. I know like juke isn't clased as house, but it fits in the sets of people playing house among numerous other things.

I think this forum does alright without this kind of short sightedness anyway.

exactly, I don't see the point in playing down House just so more Dubstep fans will post here, pointless

yeah true but still.. but then you might as well have dubstep in here seen as a lot of garage gets posted... it's too distant from it's origin (IMO)

this forum is cool because despite 7 pages of posting (pretty long for a subforum with relatively small amount of traffic), noone knows what it is or should be about. just like the music eh?
