MC's and Dubstep?
MC's and Dubstep?
Whats your opinions on MC's with Dubstep?
It works very well with DNB, but with dubstep im kind of unsure.

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
depends on the mc. some mcs take it over the top. also depends on the tune, for example, an mc spittin out to "rimz" by skream would be a disaster.

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
i dont like them to be honest. but if they know when to be quiet and have good energy and connection with the crowd then they are a good thing to have

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
depends, if they have some decent bars, it's alright but it's better just to have the plain old dubstep solo

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
I dont think it ever works. dubstep is all about the music and how the wobbles and melodies blend together and imagine how much worse some jump up would be if there was an MC over the top. when there are MCs on GetDarker i nearly always cringe at some the things they say buttttttt thats just my opinion

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
i think simple hosting goes well, it gets annoying when mc's never shut up. pretty much the same with similar genres, not just dubstep

Take a look at this video ;

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
As Dubstep is a break off from the UKG music scene, same as grime, and uk funky, the role of a mc will always be there.
There are a fair few that I certainly would never book for many reasons including they don't interact with the crowd, talk a whole heap of rubbish and tend to want to over power the sound of the music in a venue. If promoters, and dj's are honest with these guys and let them know they are not the flavour of the night, then I think, the same with other genres, those who are coming up will take their time, write decent lyrics that the crowd will enjoy and make the night such a task, but that's wishful thinking, been in this scene for over 10 years, and it still hasn't changed

I like MCs, but they have to know what they're doing. Knowing when to stop spitting is key. You don't want someone throwing down lyrics constantly

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
Dunno.
I like MCs who have a clue, Rod Azlan, Sarge Pokes, Crazy D just to name the big three.
Joker D, Toast, Dread MC, Dynamite, Beezy all need an honorable mention.
I'm sure there are a few more to name but i'm trying to watch a porno

I think the MC needs to KNOW/feel the tracks. Don't spit over vocals, play around with breakdowns and LEAVE some mixes ALONE.

Some DnB events became MC raves with a guy spinning tunes. Dubstep is a DJ/Producer genre with MC's there to enhance.
A good MC will work WITH the DJ/tunes and hype up the crowd - I like a bit of crowd interaction when done well, it adds another dimension
at the end of the day, their voice is an instrument... and when played well with all the others = Harmony <3
IMO.

Re: MC's and Dubstep?
Virus Syndicate are the only MC's I enjoy on Dubstep. But I feel they know how to work the music, they've been around since I can ever remember.
I'm not really feeling P Moneys Slang track. He talks sterotypical junk over most of it. Sukh should have released that beat without P Moneys vocals. Ruined the track.

Its not Crazy D, its a guy called The Artist Envy.
Re: MC's and Dubstep?
if they do it right then it can work, depends on the type of tunes playing in the set tho.
should be more so hosting than actually spitting loads of bars, but that said a nicely done power 32 or 64 occassionally can be sick. works much better in raves.
