NYC events

Hello forum
Been lurking for a little while. Past couple of years I've become a big fan of dubstep and have loved house for a long time... I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know where I can find news of dubstep events in Brooklyn/Queens/Manhattan? I poke around online but cannot seem to find any. Seeking events for other styles as well (see next question)... I would really just like to go out more and hear great music.

2) Like I said I love house but I don't know anything about other dance genres like Garage, DnB, trance, electro... I try to listen to a lot of music wherever I can and I read about it sometimes but I think I'm a bit of a dunce regarding this... Can anyone shed some light upon some of the major defining characteristics of these styles? Or recommend some good records to look for? Or any popular NYC DJ's?

Any pointers hugely appreciated. Look fwd to learning more
