Anyone got one of these studio tables?

Post by GV1 » Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:08 pm

I got a new desk today, to house some of the equipment I use a lot. I live in a small apartment so half my equipment ends up under the bed.

Anyway the desk is made by Kam. I am unsure of the model number or anything so I took a photo. I have a serious problems with it.

As you can see under the desk is a Mac box. That is propping the front of it up. Without it, the front part of the desk seems to drop down. It seems very unstable and even by looking at the design that holds it all together it looks like it's ready to break.

I paid £175 for it brand new, followed all the instructions (even though it's simple).

Anyone got one of these and had any of the same problems? It just seems like if I lean on it, it's ready to break. I really cant afford to have that happen so I've used the mac box to hold it up ... it does the job well, lmao.

It has a 12 month warranty (i just googled it) so if you have had it within 12 months then i'd give them a call or call whoever you bought it from and they will be able to sort you out. Judging from the desk design though i'm not surprised it's happened...the main desk isn't secured very well

Yeah i got one of the quik lok desks from Thomann (http://www.thomann.de/gb/studio_furniture.html) about a month ago. Very pleased so far, build quality is good and the frame design is very sturdy. I recommend this desk to anyone wanting to spend up to £100 on a desk and not build one themselves because you're a lazy ass like me. Took them 4 days to deliver it and 20 minutes to set-up :D

Man I think I'll have to get one of those - looks perfect for the setup I have - almost identical to yours. Cheers for the link! :)

They better deliver to Australia... haha

£175 !

Yeah Quik Lok make some good ones for around the same price or cheaper depending on addons. That one in your pic reminds me of the Z555:

You shouldn't have to support your desk with a damn box especially for that price. I would rebuild it and if it's still wobbly return it or sell it. If you can find one around I can't recommend the Jerker enough. Should be cheaper as well. The Quik Loks are a close 2nd too IMO.

Wow that doesn't look stable at all im glad i've seen this as im looking for a budget desk atm and KAM was on my shortlist.
Maybe it would be worth taking all your stuff off there until you get tings sorted, you don't want it to randomly collapse :(

That is the one that I want, but I'm worried about the size of it in my small studio apartment. I might end up getting the RTA Creation Station in the meantime, but I'm bummed there is no keyboard tray on there.

Dont worry at first it seems huge but its really not it takes maybe ½ a meter more space than your regular desk would, you might aswell go for the big one if its not about the cash.
