newb wants music?

Post by rae » Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:11 am

So, I might as well start off with this: I'm an American. I'm sure I'll probably get bashed for that, but anyways, being so means that I don't get to listen to dubstep very often unless it's on my own time. Given, there are a few people here and there where I live that are beginning to get into it, but not many that stray from the most basic and (so I'm only guessing) mainstream artists. I keep trying to dig deeper, but the internet is a very big place, and most of the stuff that I've been finding has been downright awful - IMO.

I really like darker sounding stuff? I don't really know any way to better describe what I'm looking for. Seperately, of course, I'm also looking for artists with a sort of surreal, ambient feel to them? Like Mt. Eden? Closest example I can think of right now.

One more thing: Anyone know of any good Prodigy mixes (dubstep)? Any good 'Out of Space' mixes would be awesome. <3

I've already heard Benga, Caspa, Rusko, Loefah, Skream, Joker, Kromestar, Digital Mystikz, Coki, Bar 9, Distance, Datsik, Tunnidge, Broken Note, Excision, Borgore, RUF, and Mt. Eden. Those are all over the place as far as specific sound goes, but... yeah. Those are it. So, anyone care to help broaden my musical knowledge and library?

Please & Thankyou. <333

Thanks.
As far as Mt. Eden goes, I was just mentioning every "dubstep" artist I've heard so far. Primarily, it's all come from youtube. If it's shit, I guess I just haven't heard the better stuff yet.

one of the best ways of finding new music in this scene is via the label the artist is signed to... often the label will be pushing a similar sound. The list just given is a very good starting point.... also why dont you try listening to some of the mixes in the mix section of this forum.
