Definitely keep going with it. The synth you're using has a really interesting and original sound. I like the drums too. The other melodic parts during the main synth line i'm not sure fit that nicely atm, but there's definite potential there.five-ohh-what wrote: just a lil something i started this morning don't know if i should keep going with it or scrap the whole thing
@dub2play
Vocal work is great, the bass is slightly too prominent and distorted for my liking in some of it. 2:52 onwards is nice, though could have done with using the vocals again (i realise this is a WIP and you might just not have put them in yet).
@dougriley
Good sample finding and use, really obviously electronic feel. I think the drums are too chilled for the style though, i think this song desperately needs to a drop into a heavy section with a 4 to the floor kick at some point, and this is coming from someone who only ever really listens to chilled music. Your song needs more hype!

Obviously i need to re-record the guitar, the only mic i had available was a built in one on the laptop. Would love any other feedback though.

Would love some feedback and some ideas on this one. It's a more chilled out and mellow piece for me but not really sure where to go with it. Thinking of recording a guitar line over it and adding a vocal sample but dunno where to go after the drop and/or if I like the drop

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and relatively new to the step for that matter. I think I have this one pretty close to dialed in but I could always use some fresh ears to listen.

@steeple
@Psythe
& @nnny
I like the ideas you guys have going on, they've all got something cool going on with them. The only thing i would really suggest is to attempt to concentrate more on the mixdowns.
Try to eq out anything you dont really need, and really try and get seperation between your drums and other parts, at the moment they sort of merge into a bit of muddiness.
Sort that, and you'll have some phat sounding stuff going on.
Now for my shameless link.

I know this is going to be shot down instantly on here, but please try to remain open-minded eh ?
thanks in advance (;

I'm sure it'll go off in a club, which is what you except from that kinda track isn't it? No complaints from me... It's an inevitable direction Dubstep will go in
continuumdnb
Are you sampling Burial, by the way?
The guitar is a nice touch, nice and lo-fi and in fact I know of a guy through Youtube who does a lot of Shoegaze-y stuff in the same manner- records with basic mics not designed for music and has a record deal/realeased a couple of EPs. It's not actually detracting from the music
Right, forgive the fact certain parts of it haven't been EQd and ignore the fact that the intro sounds like a cheesy version of Where is my mind by Pixies (It's going to be less dry)

@locksem, loving the trance vibe, as has been mentioned, could see that working well good in a club.
@deniss1, liking the use of samples in the build up, quite like the fact that the bassline is quite simple letting the other synthwork through.
@JemGrover, loving the percussion on the track so far as well as the lead part. Can't really hear the bass but that could be my crappy headphones.
Went for something cheesy and bouncy for my first track, can't quite get the sub bass to sit right (probably well too loud) and some other bits need tweaking, but some feedback would be much appreciated:

my first dubstep song,
need sub bass
mastering
and some clever alien/death metal samples.
constructive criticisms would be great!

@bl0rg not my cup of tea stylistically but technically it wan't too bad for a first. your kicks need some serious work. especially for the sound you're going after the need to punch and cut through hard and they're just kinda chillen in the background. well you recognize it needs sub bass so thats good.

definately my favorite tune i've made so far

@rightontime
yea im aware of the weak kicks because the song is very unpolished at the moment and will sound a lot more crisp when its done.
thanks for listening!

try to post feedback before you post a song. keeps the thread from just becoming 1-2 reviewers and a bunch of people asking to be reviewed
edit: same gos for bl0rg. and if the tune you two listened to happened to be mine i would realllyyyyy appreciated it

Re: WORKS IN PROGRESS FOR AUGUST, 2010
I went through the whole last page and picked out the tunes i LIKED. So i gave you feedback. Beacuse im giving you constructive criticism doesn't mean I dont like your tune, in fact the opposite - its beacuse I liked it!
yeh man, this is sick. ive not got my monitors too loud so I cant really tell if that subtle wobble you have coming in actually offers anything to the track. you might be better off just automating the sub to give it a bit of a rolling sound that comes in every other bar, just too keep you on your toes. otherwise, sick. guitar doesnt sound too bad either, i like the low-fi vibe :p
So much bounce and rhythm here! this would go off in a set. my suggestion is too add some more subtle variation, cut bits back and chop and change where you samples/stabs play. change up some drums. remember its just as much about what you dont play as what you do play
my only suggestion is that clap you used for the snare. its too... dunno, doesnt fit with the vibe (for me). have you tried using a filtered snare, at a lower volume so it sits within the mix rather ontop? id love to hear this track with more techy drums, rather than the standard snare on 3rd. but thats just me.
NOW, for me.

Excuse the mixdown. Havnt looked at it propperly yet. My main concern in the whole "concept" of the track, the mid section. I wanted somthing with a bit of techno influence, but not sure I've got the transitions and/or feel of the track as a whole down. Feedback would be sooper dooper.
For me this tune would be so much nicer if the bass had the mid's taken out of it. Just sub bass, or maybe sub bass with a modulated reece or somthing that pops up every few bars to add some grit - but for me right now the current bass doesnt match the rest of the track (which is really sick and im feeling, by the way!) I just noticed someone else stated the bass and the melodys dont fit - perhaps split these into two differnt tracks?!five-ohh-what wrote:Soundcloud

Loving the synthesis here, id love to know how you make the synth playing the lower notes. sounds like it has some percussive element to the start of it.JemGrover wrote:
