Just do what sounds good. Though you can do polyrhythms, keep, for example, the melody in 7/4 and make the drums 4/4. If you have 4/4 drums going 7 times and 7/4 melodies going 4 times, they'll end at the same spot and you can go from there.

Yea I got that. I'm just tryna fuck around in session view (ableton 8 ) and its complicated to rehearse while switching time signatures and such. I guess what I'm asking is if for live performances should I break everything down into 4/4 and separate what would make a clip a diff time signature into its own clip which I can queue when I need to? This seems real complicated. Anybody know how to trigger (and stop- for that matter) multiple clips from diff channels in Ableton? (more suited for the ableton thread I know but I havent stumbled upon an ableton time sig discussion)
