Not if they're family, that's how the state gets away without paying people who look after their immediate family. The majority of unpaid carers are women too, which is hardly surprising when you look at the rates of pay between a newly qualified pig and a nurse (who needs a university education), although the gap has closed somewhat over the last ten years there's still a gulf of difference.metalboxproducts wrote:Voluntary workers now have to pay for the privilege to volunteer! as was said above, people that voluntarily care for people, saints!

it's the small day to day things that count and have an impact as well. selfless gestures to help anything/anyone in need without too much emphasis on reward/payment/praise etc.

Think someone already mentioned it and yeah, you can say Billionaires giving up half their wealth is done out of vanity or argue that it doesn't alter their comfort at all anyway or about secret kabals that rule the world (their all going to meet up for dinner regularly, read the article
), or you can sit back and say nice one, that's not half bad of you...

thank you to all the people showing their love for us carers, as hackman's personal carer it means a lot to me to know theres people out there who appreciate what i do. looking after someone who is both physically and mentally retarded is not an easy job by any stretch. it is often hard not to break down in tears in front of someone so weak and fragile but i do my best to look after him and keep his spirits up. amongst many things my work as a carer can range from mundane tasks such as cooking his meals for him or taking him to the toilet etc to more interesting things like when he sends me out at night to look for ufos or that time i took him to the woods to plant his marijuana. sadly his condition is getting worse and his belief in 'reptilians' has grown to a point now where he even refuses to be taken out in his wheelchair for fear of being attacked by them.
it is a tiresome job but rewarding knowing that i can make such a difference to a persons life

If you left it at that then it would have been funny.saphyre wrote:thank you to all the people showing their love for us carers, as hackman's personal carer.

Low-cost solar panels will soon be distributed to poor nations to provide basic lighting. They will cost £1.

The voluntary/NGO/non-profit sector saves the country so much money you wouldn't believe it, they're generally twice as efficient as a comparable business or state institution

Actually we cost you quite a bit; our charity get about £400k a year off Government grants, plus all the tax cuts and perks we get being an NGOtest recordings wrote:The voluntary/NGO/non-profit sector saves the country so much money you wouldn't believe it, they're generally twice as efficient as a comparable business or state institution

Yes but compared to the NHS or a private organisation I bet that's still saving a lot! What charity is it anyway?
