Mala has three kids, & apparently lives in Antwerp, Belgium.
Somebody on a Belgian forum said he bumped into him early morning the day return II space got released, Mala was surprised it already reached Belgium and was holding a baby.

I think its really hard to live out of releasing bass music and playing shows.
And you'd have to play a lot...
For me (I live in Venezuela) its really something Id love to be able to do one day, but very difficult for now.
I see it as a goal and work towards that... but its not easy.
Im lucky to be able to work at an audio studio doing music production & sound design... kind of teaches something new everyday,
and helps me learn. I think Its important to do everything you can to work at something you love and really feel. Whatever that might be...

I whore out my production skills to artists for 100$ an hour plus studio time for laying vocals ect. other than that my first album, Genetisy...although it has growing popularity i yet to make back all the money i smoked in weed making those tunes....if your going to produce dubstep your best bet is to get turntables or an equivalent like a laptop and start DJ'ng at clubs. getting booked is the best fast track to moolah on site and real exposure to the sound. after 2 years of asking guru producers for gems of wisdom i found that the rastaman finds his own path to righteousness
im still new to the game so ill let you know when i get my first gold record plaque

The majority of the artists making a living off music are the ones playing mad club dates. In comparison to production, most artists make noticeably more money off djing than production. Some obvious exceptions at the very highest end of the spectrum.
Gotta consider if an artist has a tune in the stores tomorrow, they aren't going to be receiving much returns (outside an advance, which aren't insanely much) for some time. Even then, sales are not something you can budget off of as a whole.
Where as if I play a show tonight, I've got my deposit in bank and getting paid the rest that night. Bit more reliable a source of income.
As far as actual jobs, not gonna out anyone specific but seemingly lots of graphic designers floating about, a few in the gaming industry, a couple do web development, a lot of computer based tech jobs it seems which would seem to help enable a lot of production time.
Also a lot of students. Literally every 3rd producer is a student taking audio courses at _________ university.

This has always intrigued me. I wonder what Burial does considering hes made 2 (admittedly, quite successful albums) and doesn't DJ anywhere?

Record releases alone don't make you that much money.
Taking on lots of remixes can boost it a bit, but still not hugely.
Basically, making a living usually requires lots of gigs.
And as discussed, it's not always the best way to pay the mortgage...
I make very little from music, but I don't mind my day job, so its all good.

I ponce off my mum and still make bare money from music.
Just bought her a new caravan and had to get one side replaced after we tried to fit a 52" flat screen on it, it decided to cave in, sorta looked like someone stamped on a shoe box.
