Post by Gombles » Sat Aug 14, 2010 12:48 pm

Alright guys, just started this new idea and i have it sounded ow i want like time wise and bpm, but im finding it imposibble to set the time sig to the correct timing for the track and its impossible to get my drum track (not included in this preview) to get in time and sound right, any help on the time sig of the track would be wicked cause i've had a flash of genius and dont want it to go !

Sounds like 5/4 to me. Assuming the first two notes of each phrase are crotchets then it works out being 5/4. Not totally sure though as a couple of the notes dont fall perfectly in time.

tapping my finger to it it sounds like 6/4 followed by 4/4... which would amount to the same length as two 5/4s, just slightly different phrasing

thinking practically, if the composer doesn't know the time signature or how to react to it, why would you expect the audience to?

odd times are wonderful but only if delivered with pure confidence.

because the technical, more mathematical aspects of deconstructing music aren't really all that important to listeners and most composers

if you write something you like, but can't work out the phrasing, it doesn't change the fact it works... i've had people tell me that something like venetian snares is complete nonsense to them and "has no structure" (although i disagree) and yet they absolutely love it

yeah what bpm is it cos if its 90 odd them it seems 4/4 but if you put like a 140 odd bpm beat behind it, it would be different. it would have to be the right bpm though to go with it, or it would sound off.

it's 4/4. if the loudest parts are where you're starting each phrase that is (i.e. the first phrase ends around 6 seconds in). The reason it sounds wierd is that there's a couple of gaps at odd points which i think actually sound pretty cool.

Edit, the notes are playing on 1 3 5 and 7 if you take the first 6 seconds as two bars which would work out to roughly 80 bpm.
