Hi, I’ve just joined this forum to get some advice for some new tunes…….I’ve always liked Drum and Bass and over the years have listened to lots of other EDM, just recently I seem to have gone back in time and have really been getting into my garage music (both old skool 4x4 and the new future garage stuff)…..I’m interested to hear some early dubstep, from the days when it evolved from the garage scene…….I’ve never really had much time for dubstep as a genre, mainly because I don’t like the filthyness and non stop wobble……..but have been listening to Burial recently as well as some more commercial remixes (Nirvana smells like teen spirit, La Roux etc etc)

Can people please recommend me some dubstep tracks that are either along the same vibe as the Burial self entitled album (atmospheric with little ‘wobble’) or some deep dubstep with chilled vocals

Check out Clubroot

here's a taster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_wfbdfGCUA

he had a new album out this year MMX II - you'll dig it

Also check out Eleven Tigers album "Clouds are Mountains"

Heres one of my faves tunes off of that album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbZXuhNP74

Move on to iTAL tEK's album "Midnight Colour"

here;s a taste from that album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d0GWt2-ctw

check out Phaeleh, he's bound to impress you hard. His album "Within The Emptiness"

Here's a taste from that album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUBxJ0cEJX0

also, don't miss Phaeleh's "Afterflo" mix http://soundcloud.com/afterglo/afterglo-0-01-phaeleh

and check out Clubroot's Sonic Router Mix

The rest you'll have to dig on your own, that's what I did. The phrase "If you want something, you gotta do it yourself" is pretty true. I discovered most of this music by myself, but people pointed me to some of these. Basically just listen to Mary Anne Hobbs on radio one, and look at tracklists of her show. If you like a particular tune, chances are the given artists has made more in the same vein - then track down more music. Easiest way to discover music.

GOod luck in you listening ventures

Can you listen to this online because living in Canada kind of limits me radio wise

second, yes you can. I live in US and I can stream this stuff without a problem. The only thing you need is a good connection assuming you're still on modem.

For the newcomers: Welcome to the incredible world of deep, meditative, bass-driven vibrations. The scene will change your life forever I promise. There is a plerithora (sp?) of amazing music by deeply talented artists out there for you to discover.
I am working on a new monthly mix called school of step which will take newcomers and old heads through the roots of dub step and provide a much needed history lesson for "filth" heads.

Dubstep isn't any of the following, regardless of what wou might hear to the contrary:

DR P
Cookie Monsta
Mt. Eden
or any other "filthy wobbla that makes you want to shit in your granny's pants and sell em to your dad in exchange for ass love"

Dubstep isn't about inventing retarded phrases such as the afforementioned, it is instead; a collection of like minded souls who appreciate that good music has depth, spirit and meaning. Bass music is not about sampling eastenders or "the filthy drop" it is about being transported away from the dark dingy room you are in into an inner journey of the mind.

Close your eyes and litterally meditate to the deepest most atmospheric music the world has to offer.
Before I post my mix I would like to point you in the direction of some true history for those who want to get to know and love this music.
Search on google for: Breezeblock; Dubstep warz (mary Anne Hobbs), this was recorded at a really exciting time when, all of a sudden, bass driven music started to evolve. Hobbs took 7 incredible musicians and gave them the platform to showcase the most incredible music I had ever heard, listening back you can still feel the excitement, the magic and the sheer energy in that studio. If that doesn't inspire you to continue on this path I don't know what will.

LOVE
Bass music lover since day dot.

Yeah of course! I'm also from Canada and only listen to her show online. I have been able to find older episodes on filestube.com some going back even a few years.
