Sampling Question !

Post by Thuun » Thu Aug 19, 2010 7:20 pm

Hello !
I have a legal question for the lot of you.
There are lots of sounds I hear in movies that I would like to use and/or fuck with in my tracks.

Main question is if this is legal or not, Im sure there are ways to record your desktop audio should I pop a dvd in..

secondary question is if anyone has any suggestions for how to do this.. right now I have a feedback loop on my audio interface, output fed to input..

Thanks dubstepforum

Vocal / speech samples that are noticable, watch yourself.

Cinematic stuff/ steling strings / explosions/ ect... meh...

What Basic A is TRYING to say ( ;) ) is any sound recording you use without permission is illegal, it all comes down to how obvious it is. If it's an explosion or cinematic stuff, i doubt they'd even notice where it was from, unlike a quote from... Toy story.

Also, iIf it gets signed, most bigger labels will tell you it's up to you to clear the samples, or not have any at all. That's where mangling/editing/re-recording comes in, especially with sung vocals from an acapella.
