IMO it really comes down to the individuals way of working. My keyboard doesn't allow more than two keys at a time, and I also just find it far more comfortable to have a rather wide spread of keys to play about with.

Axiom by any chance?
Nope, Oxygen XD piece of crap really, though I *did* drop it quite a few times... I have a lovely novation nocturn now which is so much better!

Midi keyboards are only decent if you ...
1) Get a 49 key or above.
2) Actually want to make music what doesn't use 3 notes.
3) Have the space to fit it into your studio.
Otherwise, I would say you could do without... I don't have the space really so I don't use mine anymore, I just use my qwerty, I don't have any problems writing tracks.
Disagree with this. No doubt 49+ is better but experimenting with melodies sucks ass on a computer keyboard. Alot of qwerty keyboards also do not let you press 3 or 4 keys at the same time.
If you know exactly what notes you want all the time then bail on midi keyboard, but if you like jamming over your beats get one. Just my opinion.
i would disagree too, i dunno what computer your using, but my macbooks qwerty keyboard has some real lag when trying to record melodies. also most of the time i do quantise what i record, but it still keeps the natural velocities from playing it in. also, who wants to make music with no more than three notes?

Really? I can play my qwerty like I can a piano, no latency or anything (am using a windows build though).
And loads of people seem to make dubstep what uses 3 notes hahaha.

qwerty for music
M-Audio Axiom 25 is my most used. Mainly for the pads. I LOVE them... and its knobs and buttons. The play/stop/record/jog buttons are essential for me. Also use a keystation 61 so I can play 2 hand piano, pads, organs, etc. And my other small M-Audio is an O2, which is ill cause its so slim, and the buttons/knobs are a perfect match for two sets of combinator buttons/rotaries. Which is why it's my dedicated Reason controller. Love it.
On the way.... an MPD

! not sure how it will be used, but use it i shall.

this
I honestly prefer qwerty over my axiompro 61. And whats this shit about only being able to press two keys at one time?
Fuck that man i do triads with my qwerty in about half of my tracks lol
Less equipment and distractions and shit = more creativity for me
most of the time if i'm playing piano i just want to jam the fuck out, not compose. Maybe it's musical ADD.

Yeah some do some don't. First noticed it back in my gaming days...
Haha, if a keyboard distracts you from composing music then maybe you do have musical ADD.
