Today: not one but two zinging instrumentals from DJ C to download gratis.
Architect of the so-called Boston Bounce sound, DJ C has been honing his spring-loaded riddims for some years now; back in 2004, the late John Peel featured his Mashit imprint as “label of the month” on his BBC Radio 1 show. Since then, C has remixed the likes of MIA, The Heatwave and Gregory Isaacs, and released original material on such respected labels as Community Library and Low Motion.
His latest release is a 10″/digital double-header of scorching neo-dancehall , ‘Jump Up Again’/'Mag Again (Du Ting Mix)’, out this month courtesy of West Norwood Cassette Library. Pariah, 2562 and Untold are all fans; indeed, Untold included ‘Jump Up Again’ on his now legendary FACT mix of last year.
Be sure to check the official release for vocals from Ms Thing; in the meantime, here are two instrumental versions that bring C’s production nous into even clearer focus. ‘Jump Up And Dance’ combines choppy drums, a saw-tooth bassline and a litany of bleeps to riveting effect, while ‘Du Ting’ works digi-dub effects and electro vamps into a rhythmic chassis that occupies the grey area between breakbeat and dubstep.
