Virus on the forum? -> FIXED. VIRUS IS REMOVED.

Post by darkmatter » Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:14 pm

Just got a virus warning when I came on here -

Eleonore Exploit Kit (type 1603)

Apparently it's an 'exploit pack' that looks for security flaws in Adobe Reader, Java, Firefox and IE. Can be used to find your internet banking details etc.

Unless you're using a mac/linux, I'd recommend a virus scan and updates of the software mentioned above.

Anyone else get this?

99% of the time this is due to someone using an offsite avatar or jpg/gif in their signature, from some dodgy malware site. the forum software, although somewhat fragile, isn't risking your computer. if you get the warning on a certain page, it would really help everyone to give us the url. thanks.

As I suspected, but the only image on the page was hosted at imageshack (unlikely to be compromised), the avatar was an attachment on this forum and only other image was the standard ad at the top of the page. Weird.

Can't get it to repeat so I couldn't paste the url.

I've done a scan and the only viruses I have are down to my dodgy VST plugins, standard

So as long as your software's up to date (Adobe Reader, Java, Firefox and IE), you should be protected against this exploit anyways.

i'm going to laugh when the mac users end up infected with something because they "just work" and "don't get viruses"

For the naive mac users who think they're invincible, make sure you have the security patch recently released by Apple, otherwise the PC users might get the last laugh ;)

Windows, OS X and Linux all have vulnerabilities.

I work on a mac, I play on a PC... love them both

tbh if you're above the age of 8 and know how to use a firewall, run----> /msconfig, and run hijack this once a week you'll never have any issues on a PC.

Sadly 90% of computer use on PCs consists of 'Can i beat off to this' or 'Can I shoot something with this' so it's pretty easy to target folks with malware

fortunately automatic updates took care of that for anyone capable of clicking the 'yes' button
