is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
This "filth" thing you're talking about is about people taking the music to the next step, some people think it's great, some does not.. That's life.
I can't say it's "ruining" the scene because this filth-thing is not really dubstep, atleast not for me, the "scene" for me is the real dubstep, like Horsepower, Skream & Hatcha.. People like different things, i like the older, more dark sound.
In conclusion, it does not ruin the scene because the "filth" is not really dubstep. But there has been numerous threads about this, no need to discuss it again.

Filth doesn't carry the space that Dubstep used to back in the day.
A whole set start to finish of Filth is not my cuppa, but whatever, some enjoy it, get over it.
It's more about DJ's who have no variety that are 'ruining the scene' if you ask me.

Are you saying that Jakes - Boom Boom Bass, No Future - Skream remix, Emalkay - Battlesuit are not Dubstep? (these were just the 1st 3 examples that came to my head). They are as filthy as anything out there!
"Not Dubstep" you fucking arsehole!!!!

Compare Anti War Dub (If you've heard it.. hahah) and some random Datsik song. One of the tunes is real dubstep, the other is not.
Filth sounds like another kind of music.
(Btw; i wrote that filth is not dubstep TO ME. Ya get skeeted on)

I think that naming it 'ruining the scene' the scene wasn't the best idea.
I didn't realise there was that many threads like this!

But just like hip hop, its not hard to appreciate the old school "true" shit as well as the newer shit. Why cant you listen to Tribe called quest AND lil wayne and enjoy both? (I sure do) I just dont get why people have to pick sides in music all the time.tkun wrote:I haven't read through this entire thread, because I don't feel like it, but here's my two cents. IMO, dubstep is going the way of hip-hop, in that a lot of the good music within the scene is getting pushed into the "underground" while the popular stuff is just shit. But eh, that's what's been happening with most genres really, I guess the reason why I picked hip-hop, was because it was the easiest example to understand.

hey horseforce your track is in my battle of the bots mix episode 2..
Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
I don't pick sides, the side picked me long before there were two sides.
Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
big fan of all types of dubstep, but i do hate the whole "filthier than..." comment. I try to make educated comments on youtube videos and try to learn a bit about production etc... but all people do is try to write the best comment. so childish! also people who think they proper dubsteppers who only listen to the latest releases are so annoying when you speak to them at a rave and stuff
Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
it's ok, you should see the youtube comments on the more complex side of dubstep
that beat is more intricate than a hillbillies family tree. The percussion makes me want to do tridiagonal matrix algorithms in an attempt to square the circle once and for all!

Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
honestly, if a "dubstep fan" makes any attempt at all to learn about the genre or to find new tracks, they are going to hear about borgore, and doctor p, and excision, and all the other closer-to-mainstream producers. and if they like the grimy, filthy bass, (or if they just want to be seen listening to it, as is the case a lot of the time) who cares?
it's not as if Borgore is going to go out and stop Caspa or Skream from making music.
In the same line of thought, these people will not be able to actively seek out filth without running into tracks made by people who still make wholesome, timeless dubstep.
and if someone calls themselves a fan of dubstep and they only listen to a certain few artists who all do it the same way, then
what effect they have on the massive anyway, introduce them to glitch hop and let them go away.
I enjoy and appreciate both the crunch and the wub, the bitcrushed and the clean sub. if one ever overtakes the other, I PERSONALLY will still listen to both, despite what everyone else is listening to and deeming cool. as long as I can still get bass in my face, I think things will be alright
