Mackie Mixer to FL studio?

Hey guys, this might be a really stupid question and it might not, that is how clueless I am about it.

My friend just let me borrow (for good mwahh ) his mackie onyx 1220. However I am very clueless on how to hook it up through MIDI with FL studio, or any DAW for that matter. There is no place for a midi output so Im not sure how to go about this? I really really hope there is a way to do it. It would be awesome to be able to hook up each mixer track from fruityloops with one of the channels on the mackie. This would make mixing so much easier and faster to do.

If anyone has any idea on how to do this, I would LOVE to hear your output. I always appreciate your responses. So much that I feel this online community makes up the majority of my friends online. And I even have a FB

I googled this mixer, and it looks like you would need a firewire port.

I do have a firewire port and have tried hooking up the mixer through it. However, it still doesn't seem to show up as a MIDI controller when I open Fruityloops. Maybe I need to install some software or driver to use it...

Have you checked to see if your mixer supports midi at all? as far as I know USB/Firewire connections only allow you to send (and I presume recieve) the stereo out channel not the individual channels

The description of this mixer sounds as though it means that one could use it as a HUI mixing console for their DAW. I know MOTU DP has a dedicated hardware UI made by mackie that's a lot clunkier.

Its not a midi controller (facepalm)

You can set the audio outputs from FL (or any other DAW) to its channels for hands on mixing on the hardware, no midi control. You can then use its EQ's and any outboard equipment like hardware compressors, reverbs etc.. skys the limit.
But yeah. If you dont have any outboard gear, I really dont think its actually worth having unless you really like the mackies EQ, and for setting final levels.

Once you have set your mix etc.. you will then need to records your changes back into your daw. This can stream audio in and out so thats not going to be a problem.
