mosh pits & dubstep
Re: mosh pits & dubstep
flame war alert. ignore the douchebag.
dubstep is a collective its not about trying to beat the crap out of the guy to your left...its about passing the joint to the left.
brostep is a different story.

Re: mosh pits & dubstep
Was at Hip-Hop Kemp festival this year in Czech Rep.
Foreign Beggars' set was on just before Necro. Naturally, a large proportion of Necro fans are "hardcore motherfuckers" as Orifice vulgatron put - i.e. into metal, mosh pits etc... and of course there were many Necro fans at the front of the crowd anticipating his set.
Just before they spun some "dubstep" - [and by that I mean the likes of Doctor P Sweetie Shop.] the crowd was pretty hype, and as they played the first tune the crowd went balistic, and then a pit formed at the front with some encouragement from the other MCs on stage. Then they arranged a wall of death.
Was good fun and all that, the pit was quite tame, and it was outdoors, and it was to that gay dubstep which no one on here likes.
This video doesn't really film the middle of the crowd where it was all happening but you get the idea
My point is, at a setting like that, where the fans are into hip-hop, it's all gravy, but at a dubstep specific event I wouldn't want a pit. I would want space

It seems i have gotten totally the wrong idea about dubstep. iv followed the sound loosely through grime whilst i was younger, now im proper into it i thought dubstep was for moshing and generally "hyping".. reading this and all your hateful comments makes me feel like i am part of whats killing your scene :\

Don't take all this as gospel mate. Go to the dance, enjoy the music as you see fit and leave the forum rants to gather internet dust.Frizstep wrote:It seems i have gotten totally the wrong idea about dubstep. iv followed the sound loosely through grime whilst i was younger, now im proper into it i thought dubstep was for moshing and generally "hyping".. reading this and all your hateful comments makes me feel like i am part of whats killing your scene :\

I'm going to see Dillinger Escape Plan and mosh. Then I'm going to see Ikonika, Untold & James Holden and dance. This is how it should be.

This. Went to watch Magnetic Man and it was ridiculous. I ended up stood on the outskirts watching from the side. This being after I had a nap through Sub Focus. This, it's the reason I didn't see rusko at leeds festival (that and the fact it was rusko). The crowd started bonfires in the tent because he was 20 minutes late.
SubDub/Exodus can get close to pit territory...usually gets sorted out though!
Overall...NO

And that's why I hate moshpits, at a dubstep night or even a metal gig.
If you want to punch/kick each other in the face, practise Thai boxing or ultimate fighting...
Let me enjoy the music, and WATCH MY SHOES

what?
besides which, i would like to point out that when moshing you arent necessarily trying to hurt anyone, but people will get hurt if they get in the way
...also its not called ultimate fighting (nor is it called cage fighting), its mixed martial arts
