I need a new DAW/synth I think. I'm bored of Ableton/Massive especially since Ableton has suddenly stopped scanning for my VSTs.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the advice btw everyone I knew I wasn't in a different boat I just need to be reassured. I've just uploaded my last track for maybe two weeks or something. I'm gonna read more on production instead of doing in and get back to my poetry also.

Try a demo of Reason. Might get you into having fun with sounds, routing, learning something new. Plus if you like it you can rewire into Ableton

A different animal all together. But that is why some people like rewiring the two together.

i guess you have been laying down drums with audio? You could try using Redrum and the step sequencer to see what you can throw together, it might be more intuitive.

Being able to see a rack of units may help you to be more creative and be inspiring, sometimes when using a fully fledged DAW i miss the visual side of seeing things strung together.

@jaydot

first of all i want to apologise for making an overly cuntish post

but maybe what's lacking in your production is some constructive criticism

you see this tune?

the track in your sig, IMO, is the dubstep equivalent of the above tune

awkward and rhythmically challenged

i dont know how anyone could vibes to it, in fact i can see it emptying a dancefloor

just to re-iterate what other people have already said, you should forget about dubstep for a while and listen to different music, go to some gigs if possible / watch some live bands on youtube (rock, funk, soul, whatever). go clubbing, even if its some bait tiger tiger night, and see what makes people move.

then when your ready to get back to producing show your tracks to your friends and ask them what they honestly think

also you're either smoking too much weed or not enough, i dont know which

and also if you really think that track in your sig represents you at your production peak, then you're deluded and making music isnt for u. i'm sorry but it has to be said

What a wanker, Making music is for ANYBODY that enjoys it. You can't just exclude people from the genre or from production altogether just because YOU don't like what they're making. It's presumtious and rude of you

I don't smoke weed. You can't smoke "not enough". If you don't touch it you don't touch it, It doesn't affect your production skills, maybbe you've done too much whacky baccy and are a bit deluded yourself?

ALSO, the track that was in my sig isn't dancefloor standard. No one said it was. It's a new thing to me is drumstep and I'm just experimenting and having a bit of a fun, not taking it too serious. That's what it's about isn't it, or am I mistaken,
one track isn't representative of a person's whole repertoire.

Lastly, post your soundcloud?

Don't foucs on making music for a few weeks or so.

Do something else : sports, social event, outgoings, day trips. Anything about music for a while to get your mind detracted from making any worrying about it.

Eat and sleep week, no junk food, healthy nutritious food and plenty of sleep.

This all in turn, is to refresh your self and your mind.

Try it.
A brand new song!

where did i say you should be excluded?

i was responding to the thread. not passing judgement on your worth as a music maker. you said you felt you reached your production peak and i took the track in ur sig as an example of your output. why should i bother listening through all your repertoire when you've chosen to showcase your talent in your signature.

i don't care for soundcloud

If you re-read the original post, when I said I had "reached my peak" I did say I meant for my own capability and not in general. In retrospect I'm probably wrong and I know in my heart of hearts I can and will improve ten-fold, just like I have been doing all along anyway.

Hey fella, I've been here so many times before I can't even count, truth is it will pass, things I've tried and that have worked for me in the past have been leave production for a while, ask ur mates what their fav albums are atm and if u haven't heard it then check it out (check caribou - swim, a mate recommended that to me couple days ago, good stuff) , if ur stuck in a set of chords then pick a tune that has a different structure and play along until u know those then piss about in them, go to a rave for inspiration, if that don't work then goto a festival as that should it, change the method of production and if u usually use plugins then grab a shit load of new samples and make a sample based tune instead, I think the main reason I would have a block is because I had nothing to say in mind, so thinking of things that had pissed me off or made me happy in the past would be good grounds for ideas, it's all expression mate so do something that makes u feel different enough to wanna talk about it.

What movie is that?? I saw that movie years ago but can't remember what it is.

@ JayDot, all creative people go through phases and cycles. It is just how it is. Like other people have said, try making other styles of music or perhaps go out into nature. I actually really need to do that myself, been stuck in the city for too long...
