Its me, Alex
i didnt think part 2 was that bad! definetly not cream of the crop for any of them but i really like Bombay Squad and Ping so that kind of makes up for it.
But yeah, bring a Grime one. I think Davinche is doing ok on his own (bout to release Dirty Canvas the album, pt 3 is sick as well). But yeah like i keep saying - Wonder! Wizzbit!
a-a-a
Hello Alex!
it was the vinyl mastering on 2 that brought it down in my opinion, similair thing with the mark one album
Dirty Canvas 3 is sick! good to see DaVinche try his hand at the dubbier sound (phaze)
the mark one album is a bit quiet, but with quality tunes line blow and hit em with the sickness you cant complain, you just need to turn them right up.

Kevin was in God, though (i think) just to confuse matters further
Bloody hell, this is weird. You're absolutely right: Kevin Martin was the vocalist/saxophonist in God, who were a truly extraordinary free jazz/noise ensemble from London a few years ago. Part of the whole Swans-influenced noise scene that also contained Godflesh, but they started to introduce more funk into the mix as time went on: I remember seeing them in London after they'd been away for a little while and suddenly being shocked to discover that I wanted to
dance.
Didn't really imagine that God would come up in this context years after the event...but then, dubstep does contain loads of the elements that Kevin's worked with over the years, so it does make sense.

Yeah I've got a God LP floating around somewhere, the Anatomy of Addiction. Sick album, the first track gave me an instead headache every time I tried to listen to it. Wasn't Kevin Martin in ICE as well, I think I had one or two of their albums way back in my teens.

Yes, that's true. I have to say that I didn't really
get the whole ICE thing: much like Dalek, it just seemed to assume that making hip-hop really, really noisy is a radical and important thing to do. Not sure that's actually true. It just makes it really, really noisy. Like,

I have God : Possession kicking around but I can only find the case
Nooooo!
one track was a full on industrial free funk explosion
the rest was very clever but as thinking said, somewhat headache inducing
sun ra: space is the place
god: hell is the place!
Did anyone else hear the Godflesh retrospective double album? some really interesting b sides and remixes (sorry dubway, shifting bare off topic!)

No, didn't hear that. I'm slightly surprised to discover that I didn't buy either of the last two God albums either...which probably means that I'd started to spend all my money on jungle records by that point....
Um, yeah, anyway...

i heard some of that. Was great!!
know what you mean about Dalek though - never seen the fuss here. Man like El-P (rather than El-B, just so theres no cunfusion) make way more fucked up hiphop than Dalek while coming from much more of a backpacker true-school direction rather than specifically trying to do some industrial thing.
ps> its really good that we can talk about some other music but dubstep here. I know that seems like a stupid thing to say in the dubstep community but when you know that a whole community has the same reference points, its nice to then use that as a basis to reach other to new farther locations.

yeah Im amazed at the similair yet obscure tastes of the dubstep community.
when I first came to garage people on both sides were quite shocked I was into it (hence unlikely), now it seems we're almost all old skool industrial heads. Obviously a more natural progression than people thought.

Yeah, spot on. If you're into that kinda thing, I
really recommend checking out what Bigg Jus (also ex-Company Flow) has been releasing recently, after disappearing off the radar for quite a while. Last year's "Black Mamba Serums" is an absolute bleedin' masterpiece, really dense and political and yet much more soulful than most of the Def Jux stuff. He's got a newie out too, which I haven't heard yet.

beatwise, cannibal ox's "cold vein" is amazing. if you listen to Degenerate carefully you'll hear some "references". I dont follow indie hip hop much anymore, but el-p's earlier stuff is massive influence still. big juss is a sick artist as well, i must get that nephlim album..
wicked that u lot are into these artists as well

the cold vein is the perfect synergy between producer and artist..neither Vast Aire, Vordul oe El-P have come close to meeting the standard again..
also worth noting that it is a 1 producer album, with very few guests..most hip-hop albums have multiple producers and guests and hence very little consistency..
there's a new NMS album out on Big Dada..picked up a promo, and it's just what you expect..I rate Orko as well..The Atoms of Eden album is classic..the majority of the Plague Language stuff is worth checking
http://www.plaguelanguage.com
degenerate sounds like the bastard son of NIN and El-P brought up on dark jungle..did any of you pick up the Can Ox 12 with the first collab (Metal Gear i think) they did with El-P on it? that shit was killer..

bringing this back from 2005. i'd really like to see a grime 3 come out. the interesting thing being, how they'd present dubstep now that it's been more clearly defined? come on rephlex!!!

if they do a grime 3 they need to call it DUBSTEP, not grime. cos that last one wasnt grime at all.
