Final Fantasy XIV

Post by SpookMusic » Thu Sep 09, 2010 1:14 pm

Anyone excited? I've taken a break from MMOs for the past half a year, but looking at this game last night and seeing how close to release it is, I might go preorder it today :) The soundtrack is phenomenal as usual!

7 and 8 were amazing when I was younger, got so much enjoyment out of them.
Have I missed out on 9,10,11,12 or 13?

Just had a quick look at the rest, 10 seemed like the only decent one

9 and 12 are great, 10 is mindblowing, 13 is very pretty but very boring, 11 and 14 are MMOs.

What are MMO's?
Massive Multiplayer Online (game). Basically, like 'World of Warcraft'.

I started playing FF from number 7 (at the age of 10), which left a great impression on me.
7 = Amazing game. The story was solid with believable lovable characters that you really felt for - still the only game that has made me cry.
8 = Great game, but wasn't a fan of the 'draw' system and Squall was cringing for most parts. Everything else was great tho.
9 = Amazing game. Everything about this game lives up to what Final Fantasy is all about.
10 = Good game. No world map.
11 = A decent MMORPG, but nothing special.
12 = Boring game. Story... what story? The characters were instantly forgettable.
13 = So pointless that its the first game in the series that I haven't even bothered to finish.

It seems, the series started going down hill when Squaresoft merged with Enix and when they lost Nobuo Uematsu as main music composer.

Tidus > Squall in the cringeworthy stakes.

I enjoyed X-2 even though it was much easier than X, those dress spheres were a fun idea.

Not played the first five much unfortunately.

6,7,8,9 - Some of my favourite games ever.

10 - Pretty good. Tidus was an unbearable tnuc and it just lacks the feeling of the ones I played before slightly.

11- Never played

12 - Boring as fuck

haha, yeah but at least Tidus had a laugh once in a while, Squall just mopped about acting emo.

I forgot about x-2!! I can't believe I actually completed it. Although, I just followed the main story quests and didn't try any of the side ones, like "Lets help an old lady to cross the road and then help her feed her cat!" "YEEEAH! Girl power!" "wooop!" :u:

I saw X-2 as more of a gimmick, as a guy I didn't enjoy it too much, it felt like it catered more to the female demographic and it was wayyy too easy! I got through it in a couple nights of staying over a friend's house :/

EDIT*: Also the fact that they kind of demeaned Yuna from her role as a peaceful priestess. She was a pop singer.. As far as Rikku goes? She demeaned herself in FFX

X-2 was a bit girly. So I started perving on the characters to balance it out

Girl Power!!!

That aside, it had a solid story by FF standards and if you wanted to be reunited with Tidus in the end then getting 100% was hardly trivial.

On a similar note, any Final Fantasy fans with a 360 should get Lost Odyssey. It was developed by Mistwalker (the company formed by all the good people who left Square, including Nobuo Uematsu) and is basically what I wanted FF12/13 to be.

I rate the story for 8 the most. Unfortunately, most people I know gave up before the story actually got going.

I liked the costume concept in X-2 but the story was really irritating. I got the 2nd ending, which I thought was far far better than the full length one.

12 was just crap.

Still need to play 13. But need a PS3 first.

It's also on the 360. It's REALLY not worth it though.

I also don't have a 360 hehe. But yeah, haven't heard that much about it so not been fussed about getting a PS3 just to play it. Probably steal my mate's PS3 when he moves to the states.

I've only played 10, I got a fair bit in and then couldnt get any further because I couldnt be arsed to get some item (that seemed optional) that lets you level up your animas (or something) waaaaay back earlier in the game. And I was in some next dungeon so I couldnt go back.

Gave up, fuck that.
