Music is a subjective form of expression. "whack music" could be literally any song ever created depending on the listener.

Trying to put such strong borders on a genre could only be a self serving action. Pretty lols

i can't believe people are whining about Excision not knowing a tune that's 15 years old.

who seriously cares? like pkay mentioned before, he was like 7 when the tune came out.

not everyone is into old school jungle.

i've been in love with dnb since i first heard Konflict - The Beckoning, but i've never been a fan of jungle. and tbh, i wouldn't be able to recognize The Angels Fell sounds unless i heard the vocal in it. and i'm not hating on jungle either... it just was never my thing.

but just cause one genre of music influences another that someone currently plays, should they know every big song in that other style?

REALLY ?! you really think pretentiousness killed drum and bass ???? really dude ?? YOU DONT THINK IT WAS "uneducated producers making disposable music without any kind of substance" ??? come the fuck on bro .... i understand if you're an excision fan and are trying to defend him, but you're just way off track with all that nonsense
Yea I honestly believe egos and pretentiousness are enough to kill a scene. Can you explain/define "uneducated" and "disposable" and "substance"? If I read you correctly, you're judging a producer's level of education by his productions? bit pretentious, no? And to me, disposable, and substance are words of opinion, honestly all music is disposable and will be disposed of and forgotten at some point. Frankly, I bet Mala is just as annoyed as you and many others with the direction dubstep has taken but the difference between you guys and Mala is that he doesn't sit around and complain about it all day. He doesn't call out the producers he hates. He just pushes the sound he digs and praises the artists he likes. It's that positive atmosphere that attracted me to dubstep years ago.

The only contributions many of the people on these boards make is the constant whining and complaining. All this does is create an unwelcome atmosphere that screams hostility and elitism. This is pretentiousness. This is how dubstep is represented to the rest of the world who reads these forums.

Lol and I'm not defending Excision. I'm defending the thought that a lot producers need to be looked at a little more closely before writing them off as something they're not.
glad to see that you think the same way i do. big up :e:

if you guys knew how to read posts in order this whole internet arguing thing would be alot easier. basically Excision didnt know about the tune ANGELS FELL which is a big time classic jungle tune. I thought he looked like an idiot in that tweet which is PUBLIC and i thoiught it was hilarious Loefah kinda let him know "um actually i was talking bout the Dillinja tune."
So you are making the argument that producers ought to know thier history, which I wouldn't disagree with but again that's not the point. The point is how you treat someone for not knowing something you know. Scoffing at someones naivety like a bigot doesn't help anyone. Couldn't I apply your mentality towards someone (perhaps you) for not knowing the origins of jungle music? Or for not knowing classic songs from which jungle music samples from. Or for not knowing the first DJ that spun a 33rpm hip hop record at 45rpm to give that "sped up" jungle sound. For not knowing the origins hip hop music and its key players. For not knowing reggae pirate station history and its influence on hip hop. For not knowing reggae music's key players and songs. This can go all the way back to how music started, key musicians, Africa, Pythagoras etc etc etc.

Why scoff? It would be far more helpful for you to tweet at him and say "here's a link to that classic Dillinja tune, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ"

It's all relative to the listener. My parents listen to Indian Classical music (imo some of the most complex music out there) and they think dubstep is "whack."

Excision is a quality producer, his production is always shit hot, i personally like most of his tunes, and know he can do deeper melodic stuff, i think most people on here would be surprised[/quote]

i agree. i'd be really interested in hearing the deeper side of excision...

ive listened to excision for a few years now and ive always loved his work, but in the latest set from shambala, his own tunes and collabs are getting pretty weak, the only ones that are worth listening to IMO are:

Devience - Excision & Datsik, 2005 - Excision & Downlink and Heavy Artillery - Excision & Downlink

also i thought datsik was boring before with all his robo sounds, but his new tunes as of late are fucken mental! Datsik deliquent(SOUNDS LIKE SOME LOEFAH COLLAB! IMHO,very loefah esque),Hydrualic and Brock out with funtcase
see dem run wen i bus ma gun.
