Science Faction is a culture platform for bass music and the activity that exists around it in Australia - uniting the splintered factions of drum n bass, dubstep, dub reggae and grime to create a musical nexus point for the forms and icons that have fed the growth of bass culture both here and overseas.
Science Faction launches in Sydney on Saturday 16th October at the Arthouse Hotel.
Brought to you by Peace Music, Science faction is for music lovers and music makers with a taste for bass – from dubstep, to drum n bass, jungle, dub & grime.
The Science Faction launch party at the Arthouse will be a unique event that brings together Sydney bass culture for one massive party, with a line-up of fully exclusive international acts and top local talent, the likes of which Sydney has never seen!
Our first event will see the first ever Sydney performances for ShockOne & Phetsta, Doctor P and Mt Eden Dubstep, bringing together artists from across the globe in a no holds barred bass musical assault.
Science Faction is much more than just a monthly bass music party. The driving force behind Science Faction is people’s connection to music. Each month we’ll host production classes from our headline international acts, increasing the level of participation in the development of local bass music. This connection to music culture also aims to provide a platform for the next generation of DJ’s and producers who form the core of Sydney bass culture to grow, flourish and expand.
The Science Faction web site will provide our community access to exclusive DJ mixes, single releases, ticket sales and production tools and act as a hub for the development of bass culture.

SHOCKONE (Viper) & PHETSTA (Technique) - 4 DECKS & LIVE AV SHOW
Two of the undisputed leaders in Drum & Bass in Australia and Worldwide, SHOCKONE & PHETSTA will be performing an amazing 4 decks & visuals show Exclusive to Science Faction. For festival headliner SHOCKONE this will also be his first ever club show in Sydney!!!
ShockOne & Phetsta are two of Australia’s most in demand Drum & Bass production and deejay duo’s. Signed to Futurebound’s Viper Recordings and Simon Bassline Smith’s Technique Recordings respectively, they have upped the ante with every track they have released, topping UK charts, winning national awards and gaining massive support from Triple J and BBC1 alike. Drawing on an eclectic range of influences and fusing them with cutting edge Drum & Bass production, ShockOne & Phetsta have each developed their own unmistakable sound. In late 2009 ShockOne & Phetsta decided to take things further by debuting a live audio visual / deejay hybrid show - a three hour showcase spanning the sounds of Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Electronica which has never been seen in a Sydney. ShockOne & Phetsta are now heading our way to lay their DnB Blessings on the inaugural Science Faction. A rare treat indeed.

DOCTOR P (CIRCUS REC/UK)
Dubstep’s man of the moment, and arguably one of the biggest emerging acts to come out of the UK this year, Doctor P graduated with honours in popular music production from Steinberg university and immediately started to attract interest from major players across the Drum n Bass and Dubstep market. Quickly snapped up by maximum boost rec he then joined forces with with Flux Pavilion to bring ‘Air Raid’ to the dance floors and create Circus Records, a name that is dominating the Beatport dubstep charts week in week out. As a DJ Doctor P is in constant demand worldwide, thanks to his anthemic floorfiller “Sweetshop” - with over 10,000 copies sold, it is the biggest dub step track to date of 2010. Following up with Marmite, a collab with Caspa and an example remix soon to be released on Ministry of Sound,Doctor P has certainly cemented himself firmly in the music world.

MT EDEN DUBSTEP (DMZ/NZ)
Possibly the single most hyped Dubstep act EVER, Mt Eden Dubstep are quickly emerging as a force to be reckoned with in the local and international drum and bass and dubstep scenes. Like most DJ/ producers, Mt Eden started out with a passion for making remixes - Their breakthrough track Sierra Leone, a bootleg, has had an astounding 4.5million plays on you tube. Over time Mt Eden have developed their own distinctive style, with soulful vocals and massive bass lines, and these young producers from NZ are proving to be more than a flash in the pan - now releasing on Mala’s highly regarded DMZ imprint, and with the world in their sights - Mt Eden make their Australian debut at Science Faction before heading off to tour the US & Europe – proof that if you follow your passion, success will follow…
