Re: Amen Break
Re: Amen Break
use all breaks! people use the amen break because it has a very distinctive sound and roll to it. and then other ones because they don'tmrrogers wrote:back2onett wrote:you could always use another break instead
I second this.
IMO there are so many breaks in the world to be found, using one just because it's popular and vritually defines an entire genre (or more) is kinda gay.
for example this track, is awesome because of the amens:
soundcloud / discogs / bluh

Absolutely. A young feller starting out could probably learn a lot from spending a year doing nothing but Amen cuts. Once you earn your chops on that, you can make any break your bitch.jolly wailer wrote:mks wrote:Chopping an amen is a rite of passage.
this I agree with most in this thread

Re: Amen Break
The original amen has a magical soul that cannot be reproduced, it's an example of the musicians personality filtering through to the recording plus it is more than just the drum hits that make it what it is, it's also the space captured and that relationship between the space and the groove. Too pretentious?Rekah wrote:http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... did=114739 intsead of trying to find it make itWikum wrote:i'd only ever use it as a layer, rather than the main/only beat in the tune. but to be quite honest i can't remember the last time i used it. i do still use a badly sampled tramen here and there though. i'd love to get a better version of the same break...but the cleaner versions i've found don't have the same processing on them.

I swear - and bear in mind I was using the oldskool Hammerhead beat app - that after a year or so of practically nothing but Amen choppage, my beats went to a whole 'nother level.
