only when you peer deep into the minds of the artists of the music you love, will you be able to come close to anything that has ever been achieved by them. a part of it is creating your own style, but when it comes down to it your favorite artists have all tried to replicate their idols.DZA wrote:You can learn with out having to duplicate something

Re: The importance of...
Definitely agree with the importance of space in a track but I can't help but think that some people take it too far, space is good when you want to put emphasis on something that's already there (as mentioned earlier space for the delay to trickle out) and it's a good tool for structuring songs but if you've got a load of space that isn't building tension or emphasising some element in the track, basically if you've got space for the sake of space then you probably haven't finished the song.
How does I wobbled bass?

Well, it's all about the Dynamic between the two, right?back2onett wrote:Definitely agree with the importance of space in a track but I can't help but think that some people take it too far, space is good when you want to put emphasis on something that's already there (as mentioned earlier space for the delay to trickle out) and it's a good tool for structuring songs but if you've got a load of space that isn't building tension or emphasising some element in the track, basically if you've got space for the sake of space then you probably haven't finished the song.
If it's just "space", then it looses the effect because you have no point of reference as to what "crowded" would be, I guess..

Its called an example its easier to explain what I mean if I give a rough idea what to think about then get people to listen to examples, I am trying to help people out who are unsure of the general jist of oldschool dubstep as a lot of people are not totally educated in its roots.

I started off with minimalism. Then people told me I needed more elements, so instead of telling them to stfu it was my music I made my tracks busier. Now I'm looking for a happy medium

Fuck what everyone else thinks.
Re: The importance of...
And that's exactly what I did. It wasn't a stylistic thig neccessarily, I think they were just saying that my tracks could use another layer. And I agreed with 'em at the time. In time I learnt to tell them to shove it though,JFK wrote:This x 100Basic A wrote:probably should just do your own thing man, quit trying so hard to please everyone else.jaydot wrote:I started off with minimalism. Re: The importance of...
I agree with doing your own thing - if you aren't making pop music ala Lady Gaga that is going to make millions of bucks, you may as well develop your own tastes and own style. Trying to make your music popular just for a relative few (dubstep fans) is a bit pointless imo.
I think it's about a well realised ideas. If someone makes some weird track but it's well developed in their mind, like they know what they want and how they want it, it sounds good, artistically.

i don't really make music for anyone else besides myself. it's purely me, and if people don't like that, they can fuck off.

Re: The importance of...
why i don't make it my priority to send my tunes to every label under the sun and spam them constantly
if i finished something i'm truly happy with i'm content with listening to it myself, if other people dig it cool, but i'm not going to waste my time that can be spent working on my next project trying to hype up something i know is good

Re: The importance of...
so true. first and foremost, my music is for myself, and like you said, if other people can find some pleasure in it as well, it's all the better (but not really a priority, for me personally)deadly habit wrote:why i don't make it my priority to send my tunes to every label under the sun and spam them constantly
