Going Dam next month for my ladys birthday. Looking for somewhere slightly different to stay rather than you run of the mill hostels.

Looking to spend roughly 100-120€ a night and staying for 2 nights. Want to be central and preferably for it to be an apartment/penthouse style place.

Anybody got any reccomendations??

Also any other cool shit to see other than the usual Anne Frank, Van Gogh Museum etc??

Den Bos or Den Bosch is cool, it's out of the city but that makes it proper cheap. It's a camp site but you can rent these mini-chalets that beat a city hostel imo. They also have an INSANE FUCKING MAZE of rivers, forests and bridges that is MAD SCARY when you are all on shrooms and utterly lost for 3 hours

It's about 20 mins from Amsterdam but transport is so cheap that you still save a tonne of cash,
also it's close to Schiphol airport which makes things easy when you arrive
Couldn't recommend it enough, some of my mates went again 6 months after our first trip and they booked the same place..

Go to the Dolphin coffee shop also

Affirmative. It is decriminalized, which is not quite the same thing.

Plus all the English-speaking tourists from Australia, the UK, and the States have kind of fucked it all up. There's been semi-serious talk about trying to shut down canna-tourism there and make the benefits of decriminalized weed available only to the Dutch. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Go see the Rijksmuseum.

I'm hereby confirming that you and your sources are correct.

When I go to Damsko with friends we always just walk to 'De Dam' which is like the central meeting point and go from there. But we go to bars and stuff, that's probably not your plan.
So I suggest taking a Canal tour (boat), that's probably the best way to see the city. The 'downtown' part is suprisingly small though so walking is not a problem either.

I don't know a whole lot about the local hotels but I heard a good and reasonbly priced hotel is the Eden Hotel. There are 3 different Eden Hotels in Amsterdam I believe. The one on Rembrandt Square looks pretty good.

I hope this helped a little.

I've read good things about this...

http://www.apartmentpaul.com/

on here..

http://lem.localinet.co.uk/phpBB2/

which has loads of info.

Take a canal trip. Buy a 72 hour tram pass for E15.50 and ride the trams. Go to the Artis Zoo and the Hortus Botanicus. Go to the Albert Cuypmarkt. We stayed at the far end of Vondelpark last time, and it was a very nice area, much nicer than the centre. Do you know about this....

Dunno if you've already heard about it but there's a place called Lost In Amsterdam which is a serious jam. You bring your weed in, buy something (They do HUGE glasses of beer) and they've got a bit at the back which is all cushions and raised platforms. Sick place to just cotch with a beer and a zoot when you aint got much to do.

Hi guys - I live in Amsterdam, and I can not recommend Lost. It's a rather hippy place.

The best advice I can give you is going to a proper coffeeshop. Not to the shitty ones in the center of Amsterdam. The best one we have is called Boerejongens, you can get there by taking tram 17 from Central Station and exit on the stop called Witte de witstraat. It's a 5-10 minute walk from there, but the "white choco" they have is famous amongst the people who live here.

Shrooms are illegal now - you can not get them in smartshops anymore.

If the weather is nice when you here I suggest going to the Vondelpark.

Holla if you need some information for while you are here! I can't tell you any hostels to stay because I've never booked one here :O

EDIT: If you first arrive in Amsterdam from the central station, there is a GREAT new coffeeshop called Prix d'amis. It's very close to the station and it's awesome to smoke a blunt, have a coke & burger and get some rest before continue-ing (spelling?) your journey to the hotel.

I haven't been, but the people I know that have been have just said they spent most of their time looking for certain coffee shops and getting lost in all the other coffee shops in between.
