Meeting like minded people....

Post by dj tinman » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:27 pm

Whats the best way?

Since not djing I don't speak to, or interact much, with other budding musicians. Looking to meet people who are into a range of dance
styles (not just dubstep) and start collabing face to face. Apart from forums and actually goin to clubs, what's the best way to meet like minded peeps?

Any heads round here from Essex or surrounding areas?

Safe....

I stole a mannequin from Primark, sometimes I dress it up and talk to it about production related matters.

a music production course
tempted to try and find a short course to possibly meet some people, good shout!!

As far as going to nights is concerned, it always a case of travelling quite far to a club that's gonna be spinning that genre of music. For example if I wanted to meet peeps makin hip hop i'd have to go to london but even then you never know who is gonna turn up at events! LONG!! Just wanna meet heads round this way with a good taste in music and possibly up for makin beats! :i:

And don't get me started on mannequin's, I try to get them round to talk about production related issues but they keep standing me up. (pun intended)

Cheers again...

Mmm, a couple of years back, I attended a production course run by a guy who owned a studio and his mate who owned a label...
Always been quite a shy, quiet person but since getting in with that crowd it's opened a load of doors and in that respect, what it might lack in intensive learning (due to all the shiny shiny gear sitting about, haha) it more than makes up for in feeling part of something. Strongly recommend finding something like this :D

I'm in the same boat. Any kind of course isn't really an option for me and all my old mates have gone to far away places for uni or turned into pricks lol. I'm real shy so talkin to ransoms on a night out ain't an option either. Been looking into setting up my own night round here recently but can't really move forward from where I am without some peeps to do it with...

Was hoping to meet some like minded people on here but I'm too shy to even message folks on the Internet lol, full fail. Impossible to tell where most people are at anyway.

Shame you too far away OP. If you ever move over to cambs hit me up ;)

Had the same experience... Only in my case, it was a saxophonist and a crap load of idiotic metal heads all screaming about how metallica are the best band of all time... and the saxophonist was a prick

We've got a regular production night starting up in Sydney, Australia for this very purpose - meeting with other producers, learning.etc. We'd like to be able to get presentations going as well.

Yeah it was popping off in Brighton but I induldged in the student lifestyle too much and only met a handful of people. Regrettably i'm not there anymore.

That production night sounds like a sweet idea. Except the location...

Why do most people have horrendous tastes in music? :( Any heads in Essex hit me up!!!!

yeah i would disagree with meeting people in courses as well.
in my area 95% of the people in the music courses were "yo i wanna make sum beatz with reazonz 50 yadaddafeelme"
