@ Psythe. I'm on laptop speakers but here goes. Sample sounds cool. Bass sounds like it needs more depth. I'm not a fan with that synthy type over top of that bass. Drums sounding good, keen to see what you come up with next.

@ bl0rg. Nice man. I'm into tunes with melodies as i've got hard dance backround. Bass gets repetitive, chop it up, maybe with a different sound here and there. Sounds too loud aswell :) Also maybe get the drums flowing a bit more with the bass so it does have that flow. Sounds like you've just got a few drum patterns layed down and just alternating between them. Keeping in mind i'm on a shitty laptop with lappy speakers so I can't hear too much. Definitely on it's way man good shit.

@ Grime Syndicate. Sounds like a movie theme song or something haha, sounds quite cool. Was expecting a build somewhere in there and drop. Nice synth at the start, cool hats. Bass doesn't sound quite there. But i guess it depends what kind of tune you're going for. Kinda sounds a little boring like going through the motions. In saying that though i do quite like the sound i'm interested to see where you go with it :D

@ frogman. Starts off quite cool. I think that bass is too slow for your drums. Kinda sounds out of whack to me. Digging the intro. That first bit of the bass on the drop sounds like it's gonna be big then like I said seems like it's going too slow for the drums. Maybe up the lfo a bit and sus it with the drums :)

@ Zebrakid. Mmm unsure what you're trying to achieve here. Hats sound quite cool. Definitely needs alot of work. Do a bit more work and post back

Still nothing more done on mine, am back home next week so will jump into it!

Soundcloud

@ circusjam. Shit is sounding tight dude. Sample sits so good on that build and drop tops it off. Nicee!

Planning on it, to be honest I shouldn't even be posting here, I've been producing for... two days now :D
I was going for the feeling of those cheesy porno movies, I was thinking.... "hunted in the jungle"

Pad/soundscape is from Alchemy right? I think I've heard it before, perhaps play with it some more so it's more unique.
Kick sample is fairly bland
Levels are a bit dodgy, would push up the drums, lower the bass very slightly as well as lowering the pad which dominates once it comes in.
Would be better if the sub stopped playing between the bass rising, it would add impact
Also adding in the occasional clap clap clap at the end of every 16 bars or something would make the drum pattern more interesting

Work in progress September:
Great hats, ambient noises, clicks etc keep them
Rim could possibly come up 1 db or so
Sub seems SLIGHTLY lacking, keeping in mind the headphones I'm using are fairly deficient in that range, but comparing to other tracks it still has less.
Mids seem fine, teensy bit muddy on the main synth but nothing to worry about
Little melody is good synth is nice
Possibly try the usual of automating delay and bigger reverbs on the rimshot and melody
frogman wrote:sorry for posting twice so close to each other, but i fixed up my track a bit and deleted the other one, so here it is again up for criticism.
Levels are wrong, as the bass comes in everything muddies massively, you can barely hear the kick and the snare is being masked. Sub needs to come down a bit
Drum samples are pretty much gash, just get some new ones
intro is ok, fairly generic synth stuff, but you forgot to throw in 4 bar risers & kicks speeding up toward the drop

It's obvious you're new to producing my first stuff had similar problems with sample selection, mixing/levels and frequency ranges
Remember you have to get the sound right first, EQ etc. can't solve a shit drum sample or muddy bassline
Download some new samples and keep trying

Now here's a track by me with some 4bar risers

this reminds me of deus ex in a really good way, can't usually sit through pieces that are this minimal but it builds really well and i found myself sitting the whole way through it, props man, sounds pretty cool so far :)

@ HaaCK: absolutely love it man. Great progression going on in there. At first i thought it was gonna be too minimal for me, but it keeps your attention, sick tune, cant wait to hear the finished product. Everything sounds tight.

@ baaan: wicked track. Loving the ambience. Everything is sitting together quite well, the pad sounds abit muddy to me, but could just be my shite monitors. Love the transition nr the intro, absolutely seamless! Started folllowing you on soundcloud well in to this style of dub. Musically interseting.

@ a.paul: theres something a little bit aphex ambient worksy about this one. Feelin it. With regards to the drums maybe a bit of reverb on the hats etc. and some eqing should sound great. Theres a hat thats a little too loud in the mix as well. Otherwise its solid, love the pad sound.

Ive got a few wips i would like to have critiqued. So take your pick and pick it apart! Cheers in advance.

@HAACK - incredible. love the openness of it. reminds me of kryptic minds, which is very hard to recreate. awesome percussion, also really love the synth bits that come in towards the end.

@rubiconguava - m-bien is right up my alley, loving the minimal feel to it.
and loving the feeling of la-d-y, sort of an old school feel to it. love the range in your production, cant wait to hear more!

@Naider - really liking the slow bass drones, defiantly beef them up and change the lfo up abit. i can almost already hear a huge drop coming up!

@oooh - great vibes on remainderreminder think adding groove on percussion could help switch things up a bit, but im really loving it so far, has a planet mu/ikonika feel to it. great retro synth sounds.

thanks to everyone giving me feedback, going back to the song and reworking/adding some stuff. feedback and comments really help me!

thanks, will give more feedback soon!

@HAACK: This is wicked, like the man said, reminds me of Kryptic Minds. Nice, clean sounds that srtill pack a punch. Want to hear the finished thing!

@Rubiconguava:

M-Bien: Loving this as an intro, haunting and draws you in. Percussion is nice too, although it feels a bit too sparse for my liking. This track could work either as a nice dubby tune, with more percussion, or a really really chilled ambient thing, in which case it needs less :o

Eev: This is a wicked tune mate! Percussion is spot on, nice floaty atmospheres, can't really fault it :)

La-d-y: Nice broken percussion and speech in the intro, though when the drums come in fully it feels a bit stilted. Bass sounds are grooving nicely and help to give it some swing. Little bleeps are a nice touch too.

@ a.paul: Phwoarrr this is sounding great. Skanks are perfect, percussion is subtle enough to carry it without being forced. Fuck, it just dropped, that totally totally surprised me haha. This is just nuts man, what the fuck is happening :o :o :o :o Maybe the drums could switch up a bit here, and add a sub

@rubiconguava smooth ambient feeling going in the first track. cool pads. and vocal clip fits well. don't really know what bad to say about it

@a.paul that was some kooky shit dude. awesome! and i dug the drops. the offbeat chords help fill it out very well. before they came in it felt a bit empty imo. possibly lacking a lower bass sound or something. very cool stuff

@kochari nice chill feel. like the little fx you throw in there. possibly could use some minor variation/progression

here's my track:

@Kochari big up on the feedback! im working on adding the sub and stuff.

really loving your tune. my kind of track. the pads are lovely, so spacey haha. the melody is something i could see getting stuck in someone's head, and when the percussion fully drops its amazing. bridge is by far my favourite part. also love how you change up the elements to keep listeners interested, cant wait to hear more!

@mmjdw - thanks for the feedback man im working on it now. and your right im new to producing (about 8 months) and this is my first dubstep attempt. as for your song it sounds great; nicely eq'd and the sounds all work together very nicely. to me it felt like you should have introduced a second higher bass on teh second drop it would have been effective

@a.paul - sound sick maybe add a sub bass to fill it out

@xhilr8d (or however you spell it) = sounds awesome dude i like it alot. the sounds you used were sweet :e: really enjoying the drop too but maybe dropping out the drums for a second before it drops would have a more intense effect, bringing it back with a hard kick or snare. liking the variety of the bassline as well im jealous XD

so i fiddled around with my track with eq and such but it still screams noob to me and i cant put a finger on it. hard criticism would be appreciated thanks.

@ amphibian
Yours was one of the first tracks I heard upon discovering this site and I loved it the first time I heard it, and still do. I can't think of anything I would do to improve it.

@dubsleazy

Amazing synth work near the middle of the track, has an almost transcendental feel, the first half seemed a little repetitive though, but it is a great track.

@xhilr8ed

Love that track man, it has a great progression and feel. I can't even begin to touch that kind of production, so I really don't know what to say improvement wise. I will give it a few more listens and see if I can come up with something.

OK I am showing up to quite a few tracks to hear, and as I am a new poster, I will be sure to comment on three. I had started to, and realized that @whoever doesnt mean much when that person has posted multiple tracks. So I am gonna take the time to sort it out. In the meantime I figured I would share this one for some feedback. Its a basic hip hop type arrangement I cooked up for my buddy to lay some verses down on, but I want to take the track and do more with it (i.e. a more complex instrumental arrangement). I still need to make a good intro for it, there is a placeholder there now. This track would never have happened without this forums influence/insight, so thanks for all your knowledge guys. I am a severe novice, so any feedback, no matter how obvious, is more than welcome.
*edit* gonna try a couple more bounces to see if I can get some better behavior out of the random aspect of Replicant, some of its triggers are pretty awkward sounding to me.

Yes guys thanks for the listen, much respect for the feedback!

:)

@Rubiconguava: On M-Bien. Great use of vinyl cracks and vocal sample, great late night tune. A few things though, that hihat is quite piercing, also I would like to hear some bass! where is it? Hihat and progression could use some work as well. Otherwise really solid vibes on this one please work on this and send it to me through soundcloud when its done!

@Kochari: Nice, more late night vibes, I think that snare could come forward in the mix a bit, Im lookin at your dynamic content of the track and its amazing how you got everything to come out in the mix without the bass mudzz.

@Steeple: Yhes man cheers for listenin, really appreciate the feedback. On your tune I think could use some more sub content, seems a bit empty without it. Could definitely go with more progression in the second bit as well.

Cheers.

@Frogman. Its sounds killer man but i feel that the thing thats making you think it sounds noob might be when the wobble turns kinda super sci-fi.. in the end it does it too much and gets maybe gets a lil cheesy. i dunno. i think maybe you should take that effect or other layer on it whatever it is out and maybe use a diff dist or effect on that part or something..
