Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
jak-a-tron - I dig the style. It's dark so I would take it further and add more dark vibes to it.
NICORISONE - Solid sounds, I really dig the piano part. Keep that tune moving, it is kind of stuck in one place.
ironik - Not too bad, I think the distortion is a tad over done, but I like the timbre of it.
Craggle - the high pitched sample is a bit too loud or something, but other than that, this is pretty dope!
Lazure - Not too bad at all. I don't really care for the drums and it's like the entire track has too much verb on it.
Steeple - Pretty chilled stuff there. I agree you should probably change the bass to sound more hollow and dark.
a.paul - That's some psychopathic shit there. Change up the snare tho, it doesn't fit imo.
LukeLuke - I honestly just don't care for the arp in and lead synth sounds in the track, some good stuff in there tho.
ibscotty - Sorry man I just don't care for this tune. The notes seem pretty random and out of key.
UnitedFruits - Not bad stuff. Tunes like this kind of confuse me, either be ballz out or chilled. It's right down the middle.
narrator - maybe throw a touch of verb or chorus on that saw wub. It comes off a bit dry. Good shit tho.
tripwire22 - I dig everything except for the snare. I would go with something more analog sounding.
jmc23 - Nice stuff. Be careful of your subs colliding with one another. Also, you should change up the hats. Do some syncopation.
ogunslinger - Keep at it, it sounds kind of flat, not sure why. Pretty good sounds tho!
JemGrover - Nice vibes, I really like the bass and perc you got goin on.
streetxlite - There is a lot of good stuff already going on. It seems like you already have an idea of what to change.
rekstep - Honestly, I dig the fuck out of this one.
circusjam - 2 words - Fuck yea
brex - Not really into this one.
bradicle - Crazy sounds, not too sure what to make of it, but it is defo original.
Psythe - You have no punch going on. Where is the subz? Not too bad tho.
baaan - Vibes, I think that deep shit should have more complexity in the drums tho.
bl0rg - You got some nice wubs, but the track itself isn't very moving imo.
Thebender - Shitz got that bounce. I can dig it! Love the dirty south to it.
RightOnTime27 - Not sure what to say. Sounds like it's too complex for it's own good. Impressive production tho.
oooh - Shit yea, I'm loving the melody and instrumentation.
Grime Syndicate - The second track has potential, I'm not feelin the first one.
luckism - It may be generic, but it's dope.
frogman - Not really into it, but I don't dislike it either. The basses are very muddy.
HAACK - Very nice stuff so far.
marsonebeatz - The snare stands out to me. Sounds very old school run dmc ish.
mmjdw - The production is top shelf, but I kind of with the tune would go somewhere. It's one of those middle of the road tunes that bother me.
rubiconguava - I hate liquid dnb or whatever, but that first track is deep as a grave.
Kochari - Great sounds, had me in the zone.
xhilr8d - Needs subz and that vocal sample is way too loud. Very strange sound, but not bad.

Based on previous posts, updated my track. Changed the sub bass and progression, will definitely be adding more percussion and atmosphere to keep the track moving forward.
Cheers.

Alright first post in this thread I think and I'm NOT GOING TO POST FEEDBACK YET. because I have no headphones atm, but I WILL do eventually promise.
I'm looking for fb on mine cheekily, I need to know if people can hear the clicking when the bass kicks in and other feedback. I'll return all who do post feedback in additio n to the three tracks, cheeers.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Here's the promised feedback:
@CBK81: Holy shit that is some heavy stuff, great punchy drums and sick patterns, amazing bass especially where it creeps up in pitch (I think) massive potential
@HAACK: Dark vibes on this, would like to hear it with an intro and maybe changeups every 16 after the drop, percs introduced or whatever, nice so far though...
My track is "Elysium" in my signature.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Right I have a new one in the works and I'm pretty stuck with it. Got to that point where I dunno if it's best to just scrap the fucker or push on with it :s need some feedback on whether it's worth finishing and if so what needs to be done to it!!
Here's the link:

Right feedback..
@Jaydot - Hmm, hard for me to comment really as I really don't like that main melody you have going on but I'll ignore that and focus on the rest. The mixdown needs a lot of work all round, the drums sound good arrangement wise but the kick is getting a bit lost in the mix and the hats are a bit too prominent. I would also work on the main synth and the wobbly bassline synthesis wise, both feel very basic and I'm sure you could do a lot more with them. Again they feel like they are muddying the mix as it were so cut some more out of everything really! Hope that's not too critical dude!
@Haack - Straight away I'm liking this lovely dark atmosphere you've got going on, when those drums drop in you know it means business. Serious vibes going on here. Everything sounds lush and well mixed down. Got an oldschool vibe to it but with a new twist. Sounds very then and very now at the same time XD Really love it, only advice I can give is expand on what you've already done. Longer, introduce new elements as it progresses etc. Gonna be a sick one!
@CBK81 - Good production quality on this, not really my kinda thing and some of the filthy sounds are a bit generic, well synthesised though so I know you could be making more interesting sounds! Good work on the drums and the atmosphere. Got a nice creepy vibe, I actually really enjoyed the breakdown sections XD I would say the tracks good all round but maybe work a bit more on your lead filth sounds as it were.
@Steeple - Going in a good direction but feels like it's quite basic really. Maybe a bit more atmosphere in the background to really bring it to life?
EDIT: Had a listen again, i've answered my own question, it's shit. I suppose really I wanna know which bits to keep and which to get rid of :\
Just incase someone would have missed it I realise my song is shit, instead of normal feedback maybe just tell me what few bits do sound good and i'll take the whole fucker apart later and try and make it from the ground up again!

I love this kind of sound, but I'm not quite sure if it's suitable for dubstep. I'm still very new to this genre so if you could please leave a comment telling me how it sounds to you, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Bl0rg - wyrmwood . . . Overall I think you did a good job at mastering, Lots of wubbing going on in there, which can be a little excessive. But the coolest parts are the metalesque drum kick fills in the break downs. Good stuff
frogman - First dubstep reedit. . . Track is currently not available, I'll have to catch it when you put it back up.
HaaCK - Untitled a. . . Good stuff, nice 'n heavy, but not in a hey let's throw a shit ton of sound everywhere kind of way. Likes.
Rubiconguave - M-bien/Eev/la-d-y. . . Thanks for following me btw, I really like m-bien with its minimal vibes. But My favorite is definately eev, love the drum & bass feel, and the pad or sample that comes in around 3:02. La-d-y is alright. I like the drums, but i think that bass is turning me off. Doesn't sound bad, but maybe its just a little repetitive.
A.Paul - meanwhile . . . This song is all over the place. The melody in the backround & the drums keeps the song on a direct path, but the spacey wobbles make it unique and interesting. I also like the "uh oh" sample. Funny. And fun.
CBK81 . . . That song at the bottom, is intense. Punchy drums definatley and a good drop. You can most definately feel that bass.
My ears are exhausted. So I'll leave more FB later.

@ remokari~ I really like the bass preview track, sounds clean and mean, would be great for so many high energy activities
@ baan~ Dig that inevitable drought track, especially the bass, it has a great way of keeping the track nice and deep. Can't wait to hear it finished.
Adjective is a nice chill track, with a tight introspective feel and great vibes. Great smoking song, tried and tested by me.
@ paravais~ Love the synth in the intro, I am a big fan of creepy strange sounds, which this track is full of. Overall I like the track, though I think maybe something different with the violins would make it a bit more dynamic, maybe try varying the rhythm on them occasionally. This definitely has a 'serial killer' kind of sound to it and I think it is worth finishing up for sure.
@jaydot ~ I dont know if I am a fan of the synth melody, or maybe just not of the tone of the synth. The melody does get a bit repetitive as well. Also the cymbal reverb seems to be a bit much. I cannot hear the clicking when the bass comes in, but the first snare after that is significantly louder. Its definitely an interesting a strange sound, one that is worth polishing up for sure.
Ok, haven't gotten any feedback on my first post, so I worked on some of the issues I noticed. Keep in mind the arrangement is made for lyrics to be put over, hence its simplicity, but I think I did a lot to improve the sound quality and got rid of a lot of random Replicant stuff that just didn't sound right.

@baaan-like the first tune, it's chill, but the second one is very jazzy. Love the background texture in it, as well as the distant pitch bending around 1:20. Not sure about the piano part around 1:38, sounds a little out of key, not sure if you were going for that though.
@jheart-Nice tune, I just think your drums need some panning. The snare gets a little lost too, so maybe back off the reverb a bit. Other than that, I like your progression and structure.
@Simteks- Your tune seems pretty static, try some chord progression or shorten it up. The bass could use some work too. Like the funky drums and wah guitar in the background though.
Here's a new one.

Pretty depressing I know. Got to go to court tomorrow so I'm not quite feeling like myself. Vocals are Billie Holiday.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@jaydot, dude, what happened? i'm totally not feeling this one i'm sorry to say. sounds really lazily put together =( lets collab soon and get you outta that 3 note funk
@stealth-elf, strange intro, leaves alot of creepy room for a scary drop. i want a little tiny bit more distortion on your bassline, kick AND snare. the strange 12th wobbled part is odd, play with the filter on that, make it more "WOAH HEY NOW!" digging the eerie strings and metalish sound melody reintroduction. drop some fucking WAVESHAPERS and CHORUS and MAXIMISERS and DISTORTION and PHASERS and FLANGERS on those wobbles man
@remokari, fucking fantastic. great mix of melodic harmonic and heavy. needs a proper intro, buildup to the drop, breakdown, but i can't WAIT to hear this one @ completion =]
@Baaan, i never know how you pull it off. I feel like you should move on to the next one, this is sounding quite proper to my ears, but then again, they are trained to listen to stupid amounts of time of drone/soundscape/ambient music so i could be wrong. (a quote from my friend screaming at the flying lotus show: "MORE AMBIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!")
@jeremyheart, sounding pretty clean trip hop inspired in the intro, then it gets all dirty. could use with some distortion in the mid-low freqs on your bass. not much to say about this one. Straight up square wobs are so 2006 man
got this one jammed out today, tried to leave it somewhat empty to add stuff later on.
most vexed by the bass tones, and mixdown, so feedback there is ace, cheers.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
HELP i have great ideas but my track sounds shite.
So I have this track I've been working on... it's posted below.
I'm satisfied with the structure and everything, but some of the sounds I'm having difficulty with.
First of all, my sub bass sounds muddy as hell. I don't have GREAT speakers, just a big sub on the floor and a couple little home stereo speakers on the desk. But when I played it side-by-side a deep L-Wiz track, it was obvious the production quality of MY track was nowhere near professional.
I've assigned a really deep LFO on the bass, which is just a simple sine wave, to give it some rolling, slightly wobbling amplitude. Before I did that, though, the bass was still muddy. I used an EQ to cut out frequencies under 30hz, but I'm thinking maybe I need to cut more than that?
Also, the rhodes-y synth effect (the only synth in there, you cant miss it) just isn't sounding bright enough.I've got some reverb, chorus, and delay effects on it. I'm wondering what the best way is to make it more THERE, naw meen? Simple EQ?
I think the track has a pretty simple concept, so if any of you fine heads out there with decent sound at home could give it a listen and maybe pick out some rudimentary tips for me, I'd me much appreciative. I know how to make tunes okay, just making them sound all well-mixed and "mastered" is still beyond me.

WoW so much good shit on this thread it sucks i have to give feed back when i feel im the one left behind haha
@Remokari try some(more?) sidechain compression with your kick n bass maybe an auto filter for some more fun.
@wobbafett if your havin problems with presence sometimes doubleing up can make it sound THERE
@haack your track makes me think of a robot getting a sloppy BJ. i dig ineed

hello world. this is a dubby track ive been tryin to get down proper. its not arranged at all just sorta experimental status. thoughts? suggestions on sounds? side note the dub delay while on the track isnt recorded here (ableton how you do funny things) also i still need to auto mate the bass so it has more range of wobbles.
edit: also no lead as of yet.

A collab soon will be good Kesek, message me on here or SC! I dunno I was stuck in a rut and thought I'd go back to basics stylistically. In my defence the mixdown is shit due to the CPU being under strain (shit laptop memory) but I know I can do so much better than that.streetxlite wrote:@jaydot, dude, what happened? i'm totally not feeling this one i'm sorry to say. sounds really lazily put together =( lets collab soon and get you outta that 3 note funk

got this one jammed out today, tried to leave it somewhat empty to add stuff later on.
most vexed by the bass tones, and mixdown, so feedback there is ace, cheers.

As for your track I like the bassline melody, sounds promising allround apart from the snare sounds a little quiet in comparison to the rest of the track, head-nodder definitely though.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@wobbafet: REally likin the tune itself man. Maybe to get the bass sounding a little less muddy, sidechain the bass from the kick, not enough to make it obviously audible but just enough so that if thats whats causing mudiness it gets rid of it.
