Actually have groove. Its really as simple as that, every time what makes me dance has the fundamental aspects of rhythm, those tunes with 493839 different basslines what only play for bar each are no danceable...

I agree that groove is in the heart...

but I also think it can be learned over time

for some it just takes longer

play some hand drums, do some dancing of your own.. find the groove and don't ever let it go

while you are writing in the studio...

if you are making a tune and your head is bobbin' and you cant sit still to your own rhythm.. you are on the right track

Totally agree with FSTZ that groove can and almost "has" to be learned, even if its in your heart, to create groove on any instrument (even a facking triangle) at least takes 10 minutes to get it how you want it.

Translating from head to DAW (or whatever) can be hard at times.

the worst is when you're bouncing to some dubstep it builds and builds and builds and you're all ready for an immensely bassy drop...
and then the DJ drops into some electro house or something... EUGH

Dont hate on the electro house. I love dancing to that stuff.

On the topic of the thread: I think the answer is there is no answer like the first guy who responded was eluding to. You either feel the tune and get INTO it or you dont. Your track might make you get up and dance around your room and down your hallways if your feeling it right. You cant describe with words how to make good music, its an art of nonverbal communication.

wasn't at all, i love good electro.

but when you're waiting for a huge dark drop, it's rather disappointing...

best tip i can give is to try producing something after you come home from a real fun event where you and/or everyone else danced their asses off to music similar to what you're trying to make.

Yeah in all seriousness if you're bouncing to it in your chair likely other people will too.

i'm crushing on her bad. Her and Jenna G. Crushin !

Seriously tho' Lets not hyjack the thread.

I like to dance around to slower tempo music. Maybe all you need to do is slow the tempo down a bit ? Funk it up with a good bass (guitar) lick, and add a James Brown sample or whateva.
