DMZ 25th Sept
Re: DMZ 25th Sept
1st DMZ night last night. And not what I expected. Turned up and Alice Moxie was playing. From her set to about just after 2am, the music was really shit. loads of this funky house style with a deep bass line was playing. admittedly during the quest set a few decent dubstep songs were played but that was it until coki played.
is this normal music for a DMZ night?
if i go to a dubstep night I really don't expect a few hours worth of this weird funky house style music. I know this wasn't a major DMZ night but atleast warn us that that sort of music will be played. That way I would have just turned up much later.
Anyway, once coki played the music was really good. exactly what i had expected a DMZ night to be, just a bit of a shame it started after 2am after listening to crappy music. The sets played by Coki,Hijak were some of the best i've heard.

It's called fringe music and it will happen wherever you go.selina wrote:1st DMZ night last night. And not what I expected. Turned up and Alice Moxie was playing. I enjoyed it, it was different, got me in a mood and then when 'dubstep' was finally played, it had a bigger impact.

As Mala always says "We don't print Dubstep anywhere on the flyer". It's not supposed to be restricted and it's more about people coming together through the love of music in general and pushing sounds which audiences might not be familiar with.selina wrote:1st DMZ night last night. Re: DMZ 25th Sept
I dont even think its fringe music tbh... It sounds like selina didnt like the Loefah set all that mush either!? I go to DMZ to hear new music & i think they always bring something fresh to the table. That funky house style music is where alot of producers are goin now because the whole half step thing seems to have run its course!ashley wrote:It's called fringe music and it will happen wherever you go.selina wrote:1st DMZ night last night. I got there just before Loefah went on, waltzed straight in, there was no queue.steshine wrote:As Mala always says "We don't print Dubstep anywhere on the flyer". Re: DMZ 25th Sept
To be honest I didn't really feel Loefah's set either. I quite liked it at the start, but the second half didn't do much for me. But yeah like everyone's said, you can get all sorts of stuff played at DMZ.
Got in quite late (the band at the Efra was stupidly good as usual) so Jay5/Quest were already in full flow. Took me a while to warm up so didn't really get into the night till Coki started playing. I think that was the first time I've ever heard Coki play a full set on his own, really enjoyed that!
What were the first 2 tunes?
Mala's set was well worth the wait, so good!
And when Pokes shoved Mala off the decks

Re: DMZ 25th Sept
basically the first half of the night wasnt exactly hard halfstep or LFO madness like people would expect. of course thats always the major theme with dmz, but its also well known for pushing the boundaries and exploring sound which is exactly what the first half was about. besides, regardless of what style was played the vibe was true to form the entire night, and even if the beat structures are different they all got solid basslines and production value.selina wrote:1st DMZ night last night. i think the main thing that really hit the marmite zone for the crowd was the loefah set. im not an expert on funky house but i wouldnt say thats what he played, sounded more like early techno and acid house at times and like garage the rest of the time. personally i thought it was great, refreshingly different and providing some party vibes. like someone else said, when the proper dubstep came on and hijak started smashing out the skream tunes it made much more of an impact.

basically, anything with some bassweight is good to go at dmzselina wrote:1st DMZ night last night. And not what I expected. Turned up and Alice Moxie was playing. Is it just me or was it really loud in there last night? My ears are ringing and I was wearing earplugs! Not that I'm complaining!
And what was with the LOL hanging shubbery? At one point I thought T_! was gonna accidentally set it on fire when he stuck his lighter up

agree with you on loefah, but cant say i agree on the hijak set. i was expecting less of him so i thought he smashed it, although it was literally all skream bangers lol. never rated that "hustla" tune by skream aswell but on that system the bassline was proper rolling.
