Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
Sometimes I see people who aren't big names or anything will do a remix of a Datsik song or some other big name. Now I am assuming they don't talk to Datsik and get the stems.
So how are people remixing these songs without the stems?

Most of 'Dubstep' isn't the most complex genre to recreate musically, so working out a 4 note melody and using a similar sound/preset as said producer probably gets you most of the way, chopping and filtering from the original as stated above will make up for the rest. Limit it, save as 320 upload to soundcloud, spam and bingo 'I'm A Dubstep producer init'.

mostly bootleg remixes i suspect.
however, i asked one of my favourite producer duos if i could remix one of their tracks and they said yes. liked my "resume" as it were.
never hurts to ask, just make sure that your "resume" is good enough.

they could be promoters who book the guy, and lock the artist in the studio until they collab LOL

Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
Someone has sent me a full blown remake of wheres my money... I forget who, or maybe Im just not saying names, you decide. Its accurate as hell though...
Maybe people are patch gluttons like me? I sit around and make those presets you speak of, even if I dont use them, I could probably start calling them remixes if I was bored enough.
A certain portion can be achieved by using accapella/instrumental isolation stuff, like the plugin for winamp/audacious, ect, ect. ... Ive noticed putting brostep through my audacious isolating thing I can call the midrange wobblez the accapella and isolate them.
And you gotta listento whatever there remixing and see if theres long stretches/breaks with the elements of the tune playing solo... Skream remixed township funk, n you gotta figurre he didnt get the old DAT tapes off mujava or w/e... Stench remixed it too...
Alot of stuff is available as midi. I dont know the prodigy but if you wanna hear a basic a. remix of voodoo people I could do it

Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
On my Koan Sound - Mafia bootleg, I just cut out the intro from the original and wrote the rest.
Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
"Cut and paste" bootlegs I suspect.. Fun to make but kinda crafty.
Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
This kinda remixing is a good exercise, forces you to be creative with audio editing, sample usage and sound design
Most of my remixes have been this style... In fact the latest track on my player is a bootleg remix

Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
Same here, I was gonna start upping them but then thought it might lead to some terrible remix's so just better to leave them sitting on the hd. I love de-constructing tracks, then making my own stems/loops, throwing them in ableton and mashing i.e. taking some burial drum loops and throwing them over a loefah bassline to see what kind of results it will get.Basic A wrote:I sit around and make those presets you speak of, even if I dont use them.

useful for me,thanks
Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
I think doing bootlegs like that only really works if your remixing from genres outside of dubstep. Otherwise you just end up with a song that's not quite as good as the original and a little bit different :\ Love stenchmans remix of 'on the road again' and 'the thong(mong) song' :p

I try to only do bootlegs of tunes from other genres, never dubstep

hey paravrais, how did you get the green on your soundcloud? that's rad!
Re: Remix with a big timer when you are a little timer
Some are bootlegs...
...but don't discount how small the music world is and lots of people know each other. Especially lots of people knew each other before one of em blew up, etc etc - so they are still friends and like to trade remixes or whatever.
