Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- SEPTEMBER 2010

Post by spectrum1 » Mon Sep 27, 2010 10:54 am

Alright sorry it took me so long, been busy but now its the weekend, gonna give feedback on everyone who gave me some, then going to bed.

@impey (A-List - Rise of Apollo)
cool intro pad/synth thing, really liking the chords its playin. not really feeling the kind of offbeat thing though. really chill when it drops, like the vocals and bassssssss. good track!

@fassyman (Cellar Door)
the most beautiful words in the english language :P
damn, that eerie orgran intro synth is fucking dooope, i love it. then when the percussion/bass drops even better. really loving this one, usually not my style of dubstep. also like the wobble that gets incorporated later in on the song. cant get over that intro organ riff

@Danger Co (Cabin Fever)
awesome donky type bass thing at the beginning. cool vocal and percussion is pretty 'tribal-ish', but it feels a bit empty i think, and some of the random sounds like the pads/bass i feel could be altered more to fit the theme, makes me think of cannibals in the rain forest boiling people alive and having some crazy ritual. sub bass seems weird, is it in stereo or something? dunno about that organ thing, again cool by itself but doesnt seem to fit the theme of the track.

@creeptown (Bloodshed - Teaser (Creeptown & PoptheHatch)
fuuuuck intro drums are crazy, perfectly done. maybe some more low end on them would give them more presence, but i get that its just the intro. maybe try alternating the reversed cymbal sounds a bit. awesome snare rolls, sounds insanely natural. drop is crazy, awesome reese-ish synth thing, reminds me of downlink. wobble sounds a bit simple but that could just be me. sick track

@Kaiori Breathe (There Were No Words, So I Wrote This To Fill The Silence (Instrumental)
Wow. beautiful tune. really have to start checking out more of your stuff, mixed great from what i can here (dont have monitors so cant really comment on that, lol)
glass sounds mixed in with the percussion are dope, i like that wierd oriental sounding instrument and the guitar compliments it perfectly. craaazy chill song, starting to produce really chilled out stuff like this too. damn i love this.

@Depone (Sensi Riddim)
Knew it would be amazing before I even listened, I'm a huge fan. This is craaaazy, tons of energy packed in. Nothing I can really say needs to be improved, awesome. Really cool variation and breaks too.

@Jaydot (Air Raid Precaution)
Dunno if you gave me feedback or not but whatever. Sounding pretty rough, liking the sounds, unique. That screechy sound is dope. Probably youtube quality but it seems really muddy. Towards the end gets a bit hectic.. might wanna sort things out around there ;)

Last 2 just for the hell of it :P

@ninthy4 (Skism - Back Off (Tek9 Remix))
Glad I decided to check this out, thats fucking insane. Love it. Growly synths are perfect but the wobbly synth could be a bit more stereo I think. Cool drums but snare sounds a bit muddy.

@GrouchDub
Drums could be a bit punchier but thats just personal preference for when I listen to DnB as I usually just listen to the really wierd dark shit (neurofunk etc)
Cool synth, really feeling the emotion in this track. Haven't heard the original but I'm sure this is better than it hahaha. Awesome when it breaks and the vocal is introduced. Great work, mixed really clear too. Sounds so professional.

Again, you comment on this, I'll comment on yours!

/\ How your post in the feedback thread should look.

@ spectrum1 awesome tune man, really well produced, great mix of sounds and everything gels really well together, plus there's tons of variation, more than enough to keep it interesting without hurting my head lol. Really cool tune all in all. Well done. Love the rhythms too. All the little stops and starts and build ups are wicked too. Again, well done. I'm not usually into this kinda thing either but it sounds great.

@ ninthy4 whatever the hell i just listened to made my face explode, well done, sounds sick man :)

@jaydot, I can't remember if I gave you crit on this one, so if I have and I now say something completely different from what I said before please forgive me lol, It sounds pretty solid production wise, hard to say with youtube, but all round good sounds and good arrangement.

@kaiori breathe
Thats a really nice tune you got there man, the chord progression is perfect and the whole track flows really nicely

@spectrum
:o what can i say! I'm not usually into that style of dubstep, but holy shit i can see that going of in a dance!

@ninthy4
The intro was a bit overpowered with the stabs, drop was big and the bassline was pretty sick, bit to aggy for me but definitely up there with the good remixes

Here is a tune which is the B side to the one in my signature!

@Kaiori
"Nobody..."
Seriously sick, never heard anything like this one, and i'm currently working on the remix. You're quickly rising on my list of favorite and most influential producers. So emotional and simple with all the little intricacies programmed in just the right spots. You can tell you were on a mission with this track, almost possessed by your DAW. Bass cuts into the mix really loud, which i like, nothing except the subs and pads are forced into the background and there is a lot of room. AHH so beautiful. Organ ish sounding pad and keys are epic as foock

"You saying it's impossible..."
You should sell this one to a vocalist, nuff said. MONEY
Fuckin brilliant. This whole sub/guitar/pad/chill niche you're working out is really panning out for you.

@2mb1o
Sparse intro is sweet, love the quiet amen snare hits right before the drop. This song reminds me of dancing in the Village @ shambhala at 2 am. Seriously dangerous work. String bits on the end and incidentally add a lot of depth. Boom Boom Boom motherfucker what~!

@Jaydot
Drop hesitation is perfect, bass sounds are fucking epic, but could use a tiny mid-high boost in the eq. i want the snare to cut into the mix a little more. I can tell you put a lot of work into the bass programming, hats off to you sir. :r:

@tek9
This one is extreme robo/brostep, bass sounds are sculpted to perfection, they come down and explode in just the right spots. Top grade filthstep here. The skanks on the second drop fit surprisingly well in that mix. Sounds like the snare is boosted a bit too much around 200hz , bring out some 500 area and some 2-4kHz area on that eq. you don't have to take my feedback seriously, because nothing i make is this dangerous. props

@GrouchDub
Umm, shit yeah. No feedback, stellar dnb is stellar.

@Spectrum
This is sounding real proper, like i should have heard it already. I fucking love the quality in this thread. The strange bleep-ish hihats work well in the intro, drop is fucking razor sharp. Making me want to get a lot better. Damn. Sounds like a new Rottun track to me.

@Kalorific
Sorry to say, i'm just not feeling this and don't think it's dubsteppy at all either. It's not terrible, i just don't like it at all. Very thin sounding.

@impey
First thing that jumps out is that the snare sounds a little cheap (for lack of a better term,) but that might have been the desired effect. Vocal harmonies are perfect, is that a synth or a sample? bass is very distant but that also may have been desired. Very different and organic, im enjoying this thoroughly. Good meditation tune. Nice and deep from second drop right until the outro too, well done.

@mgame, i think i'd like this better with 95% less "motherfucker ******." not 100%, leave just a little bit. Don't know if horn riff and bass drop works well together.

Heres my new track. Just got picked up by Sub Lab records and is now forthcoming this year.
took lots of feedback from the other thread and used it well, so thanks guys. And yes i do have a boner for nintendarps, deal with it.

@mgame

Hi guys hope all is well:

Unrelat8d: - 'Once upon a time'. I like the intro, especially with that guy talking, and the main synth/bass line is nice, and fitting. I would have maybe defined the drop a little more though. Not so much in your face, but just to seperate the intro from the main part. It seems to lose depth somehow, but overall a really nice tune.
I like it. Def. when that synth comes in over the top with the little harmonies!! Nice work. p.s. Time change towards the end is pure bliss mate!!!

Mannyyyyy: - For a first song, and all done in Reason, I'd say congrats. Sounds pretty brutal for a first track to be honest! The synths you use are great, but needs a little more depth.
They're thick, sounds with a great a texture, and you've used them well. It's kind of like the track that you'd play to someone to describe your first K-Hole experience haha.

Streetxlite: - That intro is amazing, I love it. And those drums are sweet. Nice to hear tom's in there ... You don't really get enough toms :) Nice work on the drums from 1:11 onwards ... Always keeps you wondering when it's kick back in :D

Well, that's me done, I'll be back on tomorrow for more reviews. Keep up the good work people.
As for me, I'll leave these up here for you to rip apart!

@ impey... ... both tracks are pretty huge man, i don't even have a real critisism of them, they're just wonderful, well done man, i love them both. Production's beyond solid, very professional. Well done.

@ mgame, seems a bit messy if I'm honest :/ sorry man. It just seems far too chaotic.

@ streetxlite love your little arpeggiated chords, they sound very nice indeed, nice bass sounds too. I love nintendarps, so your boner for them doesn't bother me in the slightest. Some awesome sounds in this, great drum work too, very well structured and great production value. Well done man :)

@ Mannyyyyy badass, great sounds great production :D

@ unrelat8d I think a bigger bass sound would really help this tune, it's sounding pretty big, and it's very well put together but I think the drops need more :/ nice sample use mind you and good production value too. So props for that.

@ Flyte One that's a lovely remix, very well put together and a great choice of song to work on too, I like that you didn't just put 'yoi' wobbles all over it. Love the chilled vibes man. Very nice work. Only thing I'd maybe suggest is drowning those vox in delay and reverb, maybe not the whole way through but certainly wouldn't hurt. I think they sorta stand out at the minute, as if they're a little detatched from the track? Could just be me though, love that "waitin', waitin', waitin', waitin', waitin', waitin'," part. Really nice work man. Second tune is pretty big too, nice guitar work. And again the third is pretty solid. All cool tunes man, nice to see you're not just working in one style either, there's a lot of cool influences coming across here. Nice work.

Soundcloud This is just a preview of a remix I was asked to do for a band called the Alpines, hopefully I'll get to upload the full version soon.

Cheers kaiori breathe,

Unfortunately I used the full song (couldn't find an acapella) so behind the vocals is a violin with Vibrato, and also the guitar.
By adding more delay/reverb, it would have affected those, and it sounded weird.
Hence why the delay and reverb kicks when the DnB starts, and why their such short samples, repeated.

But thanks for your comments, appreciated as always mate.

And your Alpines remix is beautiful, that intro, is quite possibly the sexiest thing I've heard. Especially when the drop comes in.
The chord progression of that song is really nice, ever though about making the synth towards the end not so aggressive?
To me, I'd say keep it mellow, and this could be favourite chill out tune for me!

The one vocal just before it kicks in is used beautifully!Keeps you in suspense! Love it mate!
Def. worth a follow ;)

Just got this finished today, think it really demonstrates the kind of flavours I'm moving towards, feedback greatly appreciated, this style is still new to me and I'm not totally sure where I'm going with it yet..

@Kaiori Breathe - This song is beautiful, you've done a great job remixing it. Only crit would have to be that the mixdown aint that great, especially compared to some other stuff I've heard from you, the drums get a bit lost and the midrange growlyness is a bit too loud I think. Overall it's good work though. The sounds all work together nicely and the melodies are spot on. Just feels a bit rough and ready.

@Flyte One - I listened to the top track you posted, really like the groove that the drums have got. Don't like the vocal personally , just not my kind of thing I'm afraid. Good production on it though and when the DnB kicks in it's sick. Could do with a bit more bass in it I reckon.

@Mannyyyyy - Good for a first track I guess but there's a lot of improvement that could be done. I'm really not a fan of those clichéd 'yoi' noises you have occassionally and the synthesis all needs a lot of work. Quite good work on the rises etc but then the drops fall short afterwards. The track lacks atmosphere as well, IMO it's not enough to just have 'filthy' noises and drums, you need to build some kind of an atmosphere with pads and incidental noises too.

Feel like I've been very critical today so apolagies folks but you don't learn anything if I just kiss your ass!

peace

@Jaydot - Feeling this man, agree with spectrum1, it's very unique, but does sounds a bit muddy, could be the compression on youtube tho, other than that, its a top tune

ninthy4 - loving your synths sounds, got some quality growl, track is tight. Only thing I would say, is I think your snare could do with a bit more of a snap to it, but that could just be personal preference

spectrum1 - Liking the originality of this tune, never gets boring, production sounds tight, nothing to really comment on other that its a TUNE!

kaiori breathe - That tune is beautiful man! Loving everything about this tune, production is sweet! Whole track flows really well, think you nailed this one, Big Ups!

impey - Drums in the are SICK!!! All of your sounds gel together perfectly, proper feeling this tune, got me proper chilled out whilst listening to it, again I really don't have anything tune say other than, Props man!

streetxlite - Drums in this are SICK too man! Proper loving the breaks and rhythm you got with them. Some nice synth noises, this is a tune too. Is put together really well, and really well written, the breakdown part at around 1 min, is awesome, can see why you have been picked up by a label, props man

Mannyyyyy - Some of your synth sounds are really nice man. First tune or just first tune in reason? If this is just your first tune, then fair play if not props anyway, as sounds cool. think you could get some more rhythm from your drums, maybe switch up your high hats or add some more to get more of a rhythm as just felt it lacked a little bit there, just my opinion tho dude, and other than that it sounds cool

When did everyone on here get proper sick man? haha! Big Ups!!!

Sorry if I didn't get to your tune, but my dinner is ready, so have to go! Will try get back on here after to check the last few tunes.
Also feeling the amount of feedback most people are giving, sometimes I check i out and just peeps posting tunes with no feedback to help anyone else, so props to those peeps, all about the community vibe!

Nice tune mate, like the reverb on the key stabs.
Maybe try and change up the drum loop.

the break before the drop at 2:45 is sick :)
