This. I basically hate anything with that "brutal electro" sound; it sounds all like HUGLAGHALGHALGHAL

This might have been said, but it should be said again:

Part of the problem is switching software so often. Downloading warez or loads of freeware nonstop can be extremely counterproductive because you might use a few of the presets, then when you want a different sound, you'll go download a new one. The truth is you never really need more than a couple of good synths to make any sound you want. The same goes with DAWs. Pick one you generally enjoy (as in interface, workflow, features) and stick to it. Don't just switch to a new one when you can't figure something out. These days there's not a whole lot of stuff one DAW can do over another one (excluding things like Reason vs. VST etc), some just have a different way of getting it done.

^ What I'm saying is, 99% of the reason you "have no idea what I'm doing" is you keep switching before you learn anything. Pick one and stick to it, learn how to use it, and everything will start to make sense. You can't expect to learn it all in 1 month or even 1 year. People who have been producing or engineering for 15 years are still learning new things all the time. It's really a never ending process.

I'm not saying to never try new software, but wait until you've actually learned one before you move on, otherwise you'll just be installing and looking for new software forever instead of actually making music.
