Pretty much, you can play without monsters too if you just want to build things.

It's an almost infinitely destructible and reconstructible world, who cares what it looks like.

Currently working on an underwater glass house. That ALU is sick, especially if it'll be able to compile code eventually.

This, you just get more freedom than real life. You can build massive castles or whatever - not so easy in real life.

Also can someone try joining the server I made (Go to Multiplayer and type in 81.103.237.246), I want to see if it works..

That first video is so funny :D :D Wandering if it was set up because he just seemed so proud of his house to start with.

Second video is crazy. I heard about someone doing the same thing in Garry's Mod using Wire Mod. Some people...

I would join, but I play in offline mode after my friend logged me in since I'm a cheap bastard.

Ive just been watching videos of this on youtube.

This world is rather amazing:

So what is the actual point of this game. Is there a goal?

Not really a goal, it's sandbox, so you make your own goals. You could say the goal is about getting the best armour or tools, but really it's about building what you want to build.

Is this a different version of the game, it looks like its story based.

The guy says you have to create somewhere to hide before the sun rises and sets because monsters come out when it gets dark.

He teaches you how to create tools from wood and stone and how to dig for coal to create torches to keep the monsters away.

No, basically, when the sun is up, you are free to just roam around and build things, when it is night time, monsters come and try and kill you (if you die you drop all your things by your corpse). That is why you need to build a shelter to hide from them). Other than that there is no story or any sort of continuity.

There are creative multilayer servers without the enemies in them though. So they're just for building.

The tools are there to dig raw materials out of the ground/cut from trees etc. You don't just get the materials automatically (although you probably can on some custom servers), you have to harvest them from the ground.

Oddly enough I don't find it anywhere near as addicting as it's supposed to be

Been playing it occasionally for the last few days and now that i have some diamond equipment I can't personally find anything else to do. The most fun for me is just creating new worlds and exploring all the sweet landscapes that the game generates. There's some really breathtaking (for such a simple game) stuff you can stumble across. Tons of awesome pics at http://reddit.com/r/minecraft

I'm much more of a GMOD guy though... Addons like Wiremod make the possibilities limitless. Minecraft is a bit too simple for me

But hey, it's alpha

whats going on with the forum? glitchy as fuck the last few days.

Anyway faust, i made the temple and hollowed out the inside, but the landscape around the temple is generated by the game. I did make the temple block by block.
