when i used to have them just plugged into my computer i used to have socks stuffed in them heh, but since they're plugged into my mixer now i can just turn the bass down on that if it's a problem
i'm having to keep things quiet for the time being too - sucks doesn't it?

just got a ton of old grime tunes for dirt cheap and having to listen to them quietly(ish) seems like a crime lol

Label (# - letters i.e. 3024-Argon-big apple-etc.> Cat# (001-00x)
any other way is WRONG.
Badger,
Is the piece that you have screwed in to the top wider length-wise then the shelf? hard to tell from the pics, overhang looks a little bigger...
i need an easier way then going battle style to fit my decks, mixer, & a cd-j...

i used to organise on my computer by label and cat number but that was when i had the power of the search function so it'd be a massive pain doing it now. especially with labels that cover lots of genres it'd be too difficult finding what you wanted
got this info from the ikea website.
shelving unit:
Width: 149 cm
Depth: 39 cm
Height: 79 cm
desk top:
Width: 149 cm
Depth: 55 cm

bumpy time
for anyone using CDJs as well as decks that top shelf is only 26cm deep so probably too small for CDJs, but i can fit one next to the decks since my mixer is quite slim. for two CDJs though all the shelving options that ikea have are about the same size but there's nothing stopping you getting a piece of wood elsewhere and cutting it to size and painting it to match and putting them on top of these (the wood in that pics is not included btw, it's just the metal legs)

that's what i was going to use at first as it happens. i bought the expedit shelves and the lack table from ikea that it says to use in that guide and then i realised i'd have to start chopping bits of wood up and doing DIY that i didn't have the tools for, so i ended up just having the two bits of the table sat on top of the expedit for a while because i couldn't be arsed finishing the job. a few months later i was shopping about for laptop stands and i found someone who'd added one onto a table using more ikea bits so i nicked that idea and added that onto what i already had, along with the metal legs under the top deck surface rather than sawing up bits of the lack table. it's a lot easier to build because it just involves screwing the metal legs into the bits of wood i'd already got and no sawing and gluing or anything, and it also means it's easier to move about if you aren't planning on staying in one place long term because everything's collapsible and nothing's glued in place permanently
i can't claim this was an original idea of mine - i just cherry picked the best bits of other people's plans and made my own

hadn't even noticed the joe nice version when you scroll down heh. the one i was talking about in my last post was the original one
the joe nice one might just about fit 2 decks battle style and 2 CDJs depending on your mixer. check what's best for your needs and adapt/cannibalise whatever bits work best for your set up

lots of people seem to have issues about both vinyl storage and getting a DJ desk at the right so you don't get back pain here so here's my solution - storage space for about 1000 records, raised section to put decks on, with space for an amp or whatever you like underneath, laptop stand and all for under £130 made out of various bits you can find easily at ikea. most specifically made DJ desks you could buy are hundreds of pounds and imho don't look as good and obviously don't have the vinyl storage built in either
quality's pretty crap but you should be able to see well enough
That would be a perfect set up. Using a bookcase/shelf, TV stand, and the supportive items, and giving an extra effort for assembling and that will be an amazing result. You made a great job my friend.
haha that's amazing. i can't work out if there's an actual person behind that post or if it's a bot

Anyone got similair for CDJ's? I got this old bank cabinet from an antiques store that's doing the job quite nicely for me. £40, solid wood of some sort (I'm no expert). Loads of differing sized shelves inside, some handy drawers for cables and shit, and it's just the perfect height, comes up to my chest.

Nice solution! The expedit range is pretty good. I have one of their massive shelving systems which holds all of

my records and books (well not all of my books but, quite a lot)

Damn thats a pretty cool idea, ive been debating weather to get myself a few MDF sheets and make something similar from scratch but im defo going to rethink that now after seeing this..
Only bonus for me to build it from scratch is I can get the height and width just right for me without having to sit the TV unit thing on top as all my gears in a flight case an I like it that way.. But I may just have to get myself some of them shelving units and fix onto that..
Defo some food for thought, nice 1!!

it might end up at the right height if you've got all your stuff in flight cases already
one thing to bear in mind is i've heard some stories of expedits collapsing but i think that's with the bigger ones, and is probably as much down to people using them stupidly as anything. just be very careful with it and try not to put it under weird stresses when moving it about because it's just shitty honeycomb stuff inside the main structure with wood veneer on top. i keep meaning to put some kind of reinforcements into the corners but haven't got round to it yet

Put heavy stuff (records) at the bottom. Don't try to move it with stuff on it.
My friend has had one for over 4 years now. Still not fallen over or broken!

yeah exactly. the ones of this size should be fine since they're laid flat but i've got one that's double this size as well and that's the one i'm more worried about because the amount of weight in that must be massive. most people have absolutely no problem with them but i've heard a few stories from people about collapse. they're by far in the minority though so it's not as if they're a massive risk but one you should be aware of at least
it's the side bits that are the weak link because they're full of weird honeycomb stuff that's not very strong, which is why the fall sideways - but the good thing about that is that the damage to your vinyl is likely to be minimal. and after that quick google search it's confirmed that it's the big ones that are the problem as well
