i can't even think of a snappy retort.decappp wrote:FL studio ive used it for years and i feel like ive learned everything about it and its way to easy but it takes too much work to master a good soun out of it

Best advice is to just pick something and stick with it or you aren't going to be getting any better. You will just be going around in circles always staying at the beginner stage.
Personally, I love Ableton and would recommend it to anyone
I am new to producing and found it easy to learn, there is a wealth of information available out there

try a demo of reason or ableton, if you like them more then buy them. theres nothing worse than hating the DAW your working with.

I use Fruity,Ableton & Reason depending on what sort of track im writing/mood im in and i dont reckon there's much difference in "Sound quality" between them its all in the mixdown man just comes down to what DAW you feel most comfortable in

I doubt you learning "Mastering" is the answer. I would venture to guess that most "pros" have someone else master their records.
It seems like you need to look into sound design, mixing, and arranging.
I do agree, if you hate the workflow of Fruity, change it, but if you don't like the sounds you are getting, the problem is you and not the DAW.
Check out the Moneyshot / Gainstructuring thread (do a search for it) hands down the most useful thread I have read in regards to mixing.

from the sound of it youre sequencing tunes to a good standard but your mixes are lacking sound quality. am i close here? next step is properly mixing your tunes: using volume, compression, eq, reverb, delay etc to give sounds their own space, cleaning up phasing and clashing frequencies, adding a sense of movement or depth. then comes mastering, which is a whole other animal on its own. ( i leave it to professionals)
reason rewired with FL would open a lot of creative possibilities for you. i use ableton and would only suggest it because the workflow is soooo drastically different from FL.

What's wrong with Massive and FL? I've yet to encounter a problem.decappp wrote:im so over using massive with FL haha ive been getting really into using rob pappens Blue

It's not about what software you use it's about how you use it. I mean hell, the early grime dudes were making beats on MTV Music Generator on PS2! I can't really speak for FL Studio but I know a dude who's been making hip-hop beats with it for a few years now, seems cool, and there's plenty of big name producers that still use it. But if you're looking for a recommendation, I've been using mostly Reason to make my tracks and I really like how the GUI resembles actual hardware. It really helps you understand physical synths and patching and modulation because it's presented in such a literal way. Plus you can rewire it into a bunch of other DAWs and still utilize all of the crazy synths.
