is there a genre name for all of this stuff yet?

Just curious, as I don't follow this music all that much...but considering dubstep seems to have been increasingly marginalized over the past few years, along with terms like "future garage," "post-dubstep," "wonky," etc. How the hell do you describe stuff like Blunted Robots / Night Slugs / James Blake / Instra Mental / 2562 / Mount Kimbie / Pariah / Kingdom / Martyn / Ikonika / Eleven Tigers and all that stuff in between to people who don't know a thing about musical genres and need something to search out?

I kinda like the idea of there not being a genre name, as it kinda just lets everyone do their own thing...but at the same time I've met loads of people that like these artists but claim they don't really like dubstep, while a lot of this stuff seems to sound enough like early Kode 9 / Loefah / Horsepower / etc. to be considered a natural progression. So just out of curiosity, what's the deal? Is this stuff accepted as dubstep these days, is it UK funky, is it fringe, is it mainstream, or what? Just interested in hearing peoples' opinions...

The fact that labels like Nonplus, Naked Lunch, Hyperdub, Digital Soundboy, Auxiliary, etc. are putting out releases that aren't restricted by tempo as an ethos is really a step in the right direction in my opinion...hopefully it continues.

Yeah! I love that this music is all over the place in terms of tempo, percussion and style these days, it's a really exciting time to be on the dance floor!!!

most of it's just other dubstep, just like half step is other dubstep compared to the original stuff. different sounds doesn't have to mean different genre

If anyone asks what music i like i generally say 'Bass Music' as i like a wide range of bass orientated music. Not just Dubstep, Drum & Bass, House etc.

Genre boundary breaking music is the one!
