@ ninthy4 - Intro is pretty cool man. Synthy bit a bit loud, but thats allgood! Liking the drop, chopped up sounds good.
@ aspect-dubz - not bad man, sounding quite chilled. Liking the drums. Maybe sub could come through a little bit more.
@ a.paul - aha liking it man, quite different. Cool way you've cut them up.

This is something just started today. Tried a different approach at bass. Cut things up hardout.

It has been a while since I posted my last tune. Please, share your feedback once again. It's probably the best I ever did till date.

I will comment some tunes in my next post later on.

Thanks! :D
Cool Minimal sound for sure! Came over a little loud on my system compared to other soundcloud uploads, just saying i had to turn my volume way down when it started. Like the vocal placements and the overall feel. Good stuff!

Like the song, very commercial sound but it somehow seems boxed in... can't really figure out how.... must be the slow drum beat(that may not even be the beat you chose to go with) or maybe just mixed to be easy on the ears for the production phase? Either way it is a heavy track that i am impressed with! If it was your intention to make it sound so chill and still use such big synths, you have done it well!

Akkep wrote:Hi all, first post on the forums :) I think this is appropriate place to post my track. So I'm very new to producing and been producing for 6 months now with FL 9. Need some feedback from more exprienced people, tips etc.. SO this is my track: http://soundcloud.com/akkep/swampmonsta-unfinished . Lousy intro and wobble that gets kinda boring after. So any ideas what I should add/change innit and what should I be focusing on would be appreciated?
Hey Akkep! Sounds good i like the idea! I'm thinking it could use a few more synths for some versatility or just the same synth with a alternate set of effects and filters. And as stated before, a little space could make a huge difference in the groove of it. ThInk of adding some more of the higher frequencies to create a lead synth to drive it home:D

I'm about 4 months in as far as production and will be posting a WIP here once i write a Wav of what i'm fooling with.

ALSO! just realized i could have done these three posts in one as an edit... next time i will... sorry!

@aspect dubs definitely had to think about this one a bit. All i can say is the production sounds quite good from my perspective. your sounds are quality. I'd love to leave some constructive criticism in that respect but all i can come with up with is sounds good. As far as structure and composition goes, im not sure what your trying to do here but its a little difficult for me to get into so far. so if i can offer any criticism on that aspect i would say maybe more melody and some kinda percusion that keeps it flowing. like some shakers and or congas maybe.

@jayzest im usually not a fan of house at all. so i was tempted to skip your track lol. but im glad i didn't because i thought it was really cool. But i will have to say it is really loong and could maybe go for less repetition. try just less repetition of the loops during the verses so it holds peoples attention better. also i noticed that your sub is having a tendency to swallow up your kick. so try some things to keep your kick from losing its punch when the sub comes in.

@ninthy ok so you said you haven't worked on the mixing so you probably don't need me to tell you that the high pitched glitchy sound is kinda loud in the beginning. when the bass comes in all the way it evens out but before that, too loud. other than that i wish i could offer some constructive criticism man but all i can really offer is encouragement. sounds good keep it up.

@bradicle so again man hard to find something wrong with this one. nice job with the bass sequencing after the drop. quality. The only thing i can offer as far as criticism is that the intro is a bit long for my tastes. but keep up the good work i look forward to hearing the finished prod.

@demzone wow man i really enjoyed this one. if it were a typical dubstep tune i would say it was too repetitive. but i'm a sucker for ambient beats so this one held my interest. as far as criticism goes i would say the lead piano type thing sounds slightly lo fi and kinda dry. not sure what would do the trick. maybe some chorus or delay. or saturation. or all three. but good job with it.

ok so peep my track. i posted a previous version at the end of the september thread and recieved some really useful criticism. so i'm exited to hear what you all will have to say.

@ raindo. Cheers for feedback man. Here's return.

That's really quite different, i really like it. I'm a big fan of high synthy sounds/pads/melodys etc. So this is definitely my taste. Unfortunately i'm listening on some ipod earphones so I can't really hear the tune properly. But for now I think it's sound really good, really unique and different. I'll jam this when I get my proper headfones back :)

@Thebender- Love e40 man, lived in Oakland for a few years. Just think a little mixing is needed, as well as an intro/outro. You from the bay?

@goldrak- Love the percussion and the James Brown sample. Not to keen on the main melody though, try switching it up more often.

@LTUK- Lots of interesting sounds on this one. That part around 2:20 with the drop bass is pretty dope. The sitar is pretty interesting as well. It just seems like your building up to something that'll fill more space though, whether that be a pad in the backround or faster percussion.

@ninthy4- Not too hot on the intro, but the drop and main section are off the hook.

@bradicle- I like this one a lot, you sound very practiced musically. Great work for only hitting it in a day.

@rainbo- Creepy sample from "it" could be a little clearer. Your drums are nearly non existent as well. Not sure if you have your stereo seperation messed up, or just some intense delay on the master. I do know there's some heavy compression happening though, so mix it for sure. Like your idea though.

So here's my new project, it's a jump from my normal style.

thanks mate, appreciate it.
Your track is sounding very nice, im not sure if you've done it consciously as a style for the track or it's just me being really tired this morning but your drums sound a little low in the mix, i would bring them up a bit. Or if you are going for said chilled vibes maybe just boost up your kick. Also just to add a bit of interest, after the second drop perhaps add some percussion in the form of some high hats. Other than that i really like it, great work mate

nice one mate.
Really feeling this track, im not sure theres much i can suggest in terms of your mixdown as it seems pretty damn solid, your bass sounds nice and thick (if that makes sense) and your percussion and melody are very nicely done 8)

@ Bradicle - Really like it! everything seems to be in order, My newb ears can't find a hitch anywhere:) Inspiring mate!

@ Rainbo - Thanks so much for the feedback! I also think i need some more variation even though it is an ambient work, but having trouble knowing where to start. I know i need some drum fills to change it up which i have none of in this track yet. I also fully agree that the piano needs help... I had no real idea about filters and effects when writing this one, was just amazed i actually keyed in some decent melodies for my first experience with a midi keyboard/controller, seems i have never played. I need to go back and rethink a lot of things now that i am learning a bit more.

About your piece:
First impression is the vocals aren't clear enough to understand in your intro, think its the reverb? Also, to make the drop feel more intense you could have a drum build with a break for the last vocal. As far as the rest goes, i would raise your drums way up, all i hear is the snare on my setup. Maybe add a synth with some higher frequency harmonics to build a melody. . Also the trancy atmosphere sound could come down a fair bit too. I'm thinking you could use some sidechain compression from your kick to interrupt your sub line and bring out the kick a bit. Maybe try to make some space in your sub line in the sequencer to give the track some more breathing room. It might all be there already and your background sounds are just dominating them, The drone bass and the twinkle trance thing really just cover everything in my opinion.

Also, I hear wobbles there in that first verse, Barely.... Bring em up front! Giving your wobbling synths some mid-high end will make them a bit more audible. Overall, i think you just need to split up your synths based on frequencies instead of trying to get a full range sound out of one synth on one track. Like a separate synth for frequencies under about 100hz using a low pass filter or EQ and others that start at about 100hz and are high passed at that frequency to keep them from conflicting. Throw a sub note along with your Mid-high sequence whenever it is needed:) All this should help you be able to bring the drums up without clipping. because, if your anything like i was at first, you probably cant raise anything in your mix without clipping and that's why frequencies are so important:)

Hope this helps, I am very new to all this and learned every bit here on DSF in the last 2 months so maybe someone could correct any mis-information i am spewing lol!

@bradicle- very nice intro, decent srop-perhaps a heavier sub and perhaps a bit of automation change on the strings like in the breakdown? Really like the breakdown with e little bell things. The second drop I'm not sure on really, just personal preference I suppose but I'm not a wobbles kind of guy- it sounds pretty professional though,

@rainbo- nice intro at the start, the sample is really well integrated into the song- very spooky. Really like the drop as well- I'm a big arpeggio fan and the sub really comes through, emphasising the notes. Can't really hear the drums too well, which i love seen as it makes it seem more chaotic and unordered. Second drop, even better with the low end horn pad thing really cutting through. This is huge mate really like it.

@Siderealdb- into is very nicey, really not a fan of the wob wob noises, but i guess you pull it off well. Nice sampling, like it better whe it's 4X4 bassline style where the synth stabs in particularly make it nice.

@aspect-dubz- that synth at the start is great, cutting through the rest of it with the slow attack. The percussion sounds good and tribal, sub sounds a little quiet- it's got potential to be good, maybe with a modulation and a few pads coming in?

@jayzest- never really been into funky, its more a southern ting but this is pretty sweet, the percussion is big all the way through and the sub is amazing, room shaking stuff. Not really sure what changes could be made, it sounds pretty much done.

Mine- well i'm not sure what it is but its taken me ages to sort it all out and it's my favourite so far, unbound by genre restrictions, tell me what you think-

im just listening through my laptop speakers atm so ill try and give as good feedback as possible for now.
@hutyluty-wow what an epic journey of a song! i especially liked the way the beat gave a real off kilter broken feel. Very interesting and a great production nice work.
@Bradicle-Sounding pretty good mate i've heard a few of those bass samples before but you pieced them together very nicely and the snare sounds nice and heavy.Look forward to hearing a longer version.
@Siderealdb-Dont usually like when tracks drop in with little buildup but in this track it worked quite well.Love the dark synth and the breakbeat makes it interesting feels like its pretty well finished imo.
@Rainbo-Love the intensity of the high synth really different and interesting. Sounds to me like it overwhelms the mid bass a bit but i am listening listening on laptop speakers will give it another listen when i get to my good speakers. All in all sounding like a decent track so far

Started this one last week think its almost there but i could really use some feedback on the mixdown

@TEKN: I like the piano in the beginning, giving a nice atmosphere too the track, the bass sound alittle bit muddy though in my monitors, maybe boost some high frequencies and cut down on the middle ones, other than that it sounds pretty nice!

@hutyluty - I think that white noise is a little overpowering for one thing like it is jsut blasting me and really interferes with your snare and hihats, and is frankly hurting my ears lol. tone it down or take it away but it is muddying your mix up to the point that its almost not listenable to. cool arpeggios and stuff but I think more needs to happen there like a phaser or filter or new noises or something needs to make it less monotonous. This tack needs so love and I think it will sound good, and for the love of god take that white noise away.

@TEKN - love the bass melody man and it has some good atmoshpere. Here is my critique - take the mud out of your bass and make it sound sharper using an exciter or something. strengthen the snare in the mix, try changing your drum beats up a little bit more add a little syncopation I think would really help this out. Otherwise it is sounding pretty good. btw love the piano parts as well they all fit very nicely

@ninthy4 - dude this is the kind of music I want to make! Great atmosphere, love your sounds. very cool. Great drum play and fills as well. cant really critique this one too well because it is way better than what I can make most of the time. I would say maybe maky our midrange guys a little sharper in the mix, as well as your hi hats they seem a little lost in there like too much re verb or something. Other than that great tune and I would love to hear the finished version, maybe pm, it to me on soundcloud or something?

@superginger - ok while that vocal sample is cool maybe it plays over a little too much also that part where it reverb's out then clears up I think should be reversed so it goes into reverb instead. Good mixdown imo, your hihat rhythm seems a little lacking to me, could use some more play in there instead of just the one closed hat. I honestly did not really like the arpeggio'd part for some reason seemed kinda cheesy and weird and did not really fit into the drop as well I think. I think a more syncopated drum beat would help out your groove a little bit cus just playing on the beat is not quite as exciting. Once again though great mixdown could use a little more love on the drums I think

Here is 32 bars of my latest track its just a 16 bar thing looped but thought I would post it for some critique anyway.
