Re: whats smarter
Cats are naturally far more independant than dogs... But that is because dogs are pack animals - virtually every single species of canine will hunt and live in packs, whereas lions are the only cats commonly known to do this. Therefore, it is a lot harder for people to 'teach' cats to follow commands, whereas dogs are much more 'willing to learn' or so to speak. I think they are both to a degree as intelligent as each other - it is mainly down to the owner's training and their persistence in doing so.
But then again - I've never seen a sheep-cat, nor have I ever seen a rescue-cat, nor have I ever seen a police-cat. So I'm gonna say Dogs.

theres probably no sheep cats because the sheep are like 4 times their size, a rescue cat would be pretty useless because all it can do is meow and lick you and who the fuck would be scared of a police cat?unwind wrote:Cats are naturally far more independant than dogs... OK, cats would be pretty useless in all of these roles, even if they were trained to do so... So they can't really apply to them.
To be honest, I don't think it's possible to determine exactly which one is more intelligent than the other, because, as has been said, cats just don't give a fuck, so it's incredibly hard to put them up to a situation that will determine its' intelligence compared to a dogs'.
I'd say that cats are potentially more intelligent, but in dogs it is much easier to show their intelligence because of their willingness to comply with their owner's or trainer's demands.
It's just too hard to say - it's like comparing a chimpanzee's intelligence to a gibbon's; they are both virtually the same species, so the differences will be incredibly subtle.

Re: whats smarter
Cats are way smarter blatantly, a dog can be trained but that just means its easily impressed, where as a cat just chills and does what suits them. I bet if cats could be trained they could do some cool ass stuff. I'd rather have a pet with a personality (a cat) rather than one which is like a hyper-active autistic toddler (a dog).

That was a good article.... I miss the stray dogs in London. What happened to all of them? I was thinking about this not to long ago. When I was growing up, it was very common to see a dog on his lonesomes wondering the street. Now I never see stray dogs.... Did they all get turned into dog food?

Thats interesting. There used to be a lot of seals in SanFrancisco, but last year they all just disappeared, and to my knowledge none of them have returned to the piers since. No one knew why they all left though.*grand* wrote:That was a good article.... I miss the stray dogs in London. What happened to all of them? I was thinking about this not to long ago.
