Heavy Dubstep Bass in Reason?

Post by WeAreRobot » Tue Oct 12, 2010 10:02 pm

I know, this question is asked all the time, but I'm really struggling atm.
What i'm trying to do is make a bass sound something like this, i.e. the main bass sound from about 0:42 onwards.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

can't really make those sounds with reason, you'll have to use massive prolly

reason is good for sub tho, which is what i prefer to use. use a two thors in the same combinator, one with a midrange bass (maybe with a scream and a phaser on it) and the other set to do the sub behind it

I can't see the vid from work, so Idk if this is what you're sort of looking for, but judging by your post count, it won't hurt

That is not the truth at all. Reason is totally capable.

Reason is totally capable. It's just like any DAW or synth, you can get just about anything out of it if you know how to manipulate it. It's just that different pieces of kit and different softwares suit different people.

LOL

Most fail post on internet ever.

Massive = fail

Reason = win

Sub = Sine waves are sine waves

*facepalm*

Why is it all the newbies these days think that just because all you have to do in massive is load up two oscillators slightly out of tune with basic waveforms, add a wobble and put the scream filter on to make basically brutal electro that massive is the only thing that you can make 'phat basslines' with??? IMO you can spot an idiot using cracked massive a mile off because anyone who doesn't know how to use it is just gonna make the same sounds. Yeah it's real easy to make it sound 'filthy' but if everyone is making the same 'filth' it sounds very boring. More boring than reading a book about paving tiles.

Sure massive is just as good as any other synth if you know how to use it and make original sounds with it but in the hands of an idiot I'd rather listen to almost any other synth.

whoa, calm down. sorry i said the word massive.

i don't use massive. i use reason exclusively. and saying a DAW is just a DAW doesn't make sense... they're tools, some tools are better suited for different jobs. personally i wouldn't recommend making dubstep like in the video above, but the OP didn't ask us our opinion on that, he just asked how to make the sounds... so shut the fuck up and post how to make those sounds in reason, if you really think it's possible. because i believe you can't.

Haha, I don't have the time or the will to write out a detailed explanation of how to make those sounds in reason but here's some simple proof that reason is capable of that and far more.

the sounds in those songs are different than the ones in the OP video, to my ears. and where does it say they were created exclusively in reason (no rewiring, etc)? listen, i never said you couldn't do a lot with reason. i fucking love reason. just there's certain sounds massive can make that reason can't. or at least won't unless you find the perfect combo of filters, settings, and fx. and there's definitely some things other DAW's can do that reason cannot. whether or not you care (i don't) is up to you.
I don't have the time or the will to write out a detailed explanation
see? why bother when massive could create the sounds rather easily

I think the eye roll was called for. That bass drop at 0.42 of that vid is do-able in Reason, esp Thor.

okay i've only been producing about a year, so i'll give in. i'll take you guy's word for it but mans could def make those sounds in massive, perhaps easier than in reason. just don't let your personal taste in music stop you from tryin to help is all

I can't listen right now but if you like any sounds I make (I do all my synth work in Reason) please tell me and I can help explain any synth in any of my tracks you would like to learn about.
