i think i like some stuff more over time actually... you dont always appreciate how unique something is until you see the attempts to recreate it..

i got on with dubstep listening to burial, then some hatcha mixes, which included distance, vex'd, milanese, pinch... into skream & benga too, but not as much actually as some others. n-type & l-wiz were huge for me too.
after a while of listening to all that, i went through a period of really digging filthy/jumpup stuff. i caught on to rusko & caspa, and went nuts for that fabric mix when it came out. i saw excision play at a music festival back in 2009 and for that summer i was into his stuff as well. caught on to dub police... was into trolley snatcher and some others.
i voted the second option because i still listen to the old faves, i still mix them in my bedroom just for my own enjoyment, or just listen on my headphones. but the filth has totally gone the way of the dinosaur for me... sort of like how i had this crazy death metal phase when i was in junior high like 7 years ago. it lasted about a year, and now i can't even listen to metal without getting a fuckin' headache. i remember the turning point... i threw on an excision mix, the same one he played at that music festival (which i probably just enjoyed because i was pilled up) and ten minutes in i just had to stop it.
i don't listen to that fabriclive mix anymore either, it's just worn thin on me for the most part, although some of the tracks i do enjoy. "Jahova" was really awesome to me for a while, but same thing, i can't listen to it anymore for longer than 30 seconds. it's just played out for me.
i still go back to my burial records, skreemisms, degenerate, etc etc and love 'em. but stuff that seemed wicked-awesome to me for a while i have certainly passed on in the last year or so.

This just in: slow & heavy dubstep. A work-in-progress, so if you can, please provide feedback. Listen up!

I am kind, some of it was good, some of it was bad.
However, Dubstep allstars vol. 4 is the boy.

Yes I still like them, might not be the majority of what I'm playing now, but the tunes I buy and love stand the test of time imho

I still don't know 'alf the tunes I used to batter what was on mixes back in the day.... That kind of nostalgia and "OH MY GOD THATS WHAT ITS CALLED" effect is what kinda keeps me going half the time.

only been "into" it about two years, and even then jumped straight into the experimental/more melodic branch of things. before, i only came across the super wobbly or tearout stuff and that put me off from exploring more for a while. it was also really fun going back and finding stuff i wouldn't have before -- early Tempa, etc., to see and appreciate what the "non-traditionalists" were departing from, and also discovering what great records they are on there own terms.
so yeah, still love the stuff i have and always pumped for new releases. as for the electro house i was playing in '06/'07... not so much.

Used to be more in to the wobbly garage ting back then (el-b, darqwan, horsepower and whatnot) but as my system got better I've ended up appreciating the subby tunes much, much more.

started with burial too...then came across quantum soul, toasty, geiom - i´m still madly in love with these bits. played some of the around 2005/2006 tunes on a room2 gig recently and it was really amazing to see people go nuts to these

Embarassed mode- I never heard of dubstep till like 3 years ago, it's bassline bassline bassline up here, and to be honest the stuff i first migrated towards was stuff like Nero. Now i look back on those days and theres still some killer tunes in mypurchased list back in 07, but seen as i was like 13 i didnt understand the bass weight until i went to west indian first time in o8/09 when i finally saw the light

Yes. I started listening to dubstep because I was into Reggae. So I started listening to the tunes that had a ragga feel to it....
Lots of Kromestars old stuff etc.
And I still do. I still like Kromestar, Cotti, 6bloc and so on...

Yeah I still batter all my old tunes!
earth a run red, grime lp, all dmz, early hyperdub, juju punks, kalawanji, etc etc
To me they are as fresh as ever, and I find myself playing out 'old' tunes at gigs much more than new ones to be honest.
Having said that, I havent played 2naq for years, and I used to think it was great. I blame rusko though, I know its a good tune, I just dont want to play rusko hahaha
