@ ajfa large tune mate lovin the grimey synth fills, i feel like the drums could use a little more punch cuz that shits heavy especially that snare like one of those pitched down rever'b ones that smack you in the head, think about how heavy they are in teh intro and build on that energy! also imo that one hit before the drop seems a little out of place. good work nice production quality dzzle

@ jbe tune sounds a little burial esque ;) seems like you could use a few fx type things to build up your drops, rev crashes perhaps and maybe some drenched vocals in there ( thats totally just personal preference tho ) that kick sounds a wee bit muddy too maybe it needs to get notched out of your atmospheres / sidechained. good vibes man now it just needs that final polish

@ mars your intro made me LOL nice one lovin the weird hiphop pad there after the drop the bass kinda overwhelms them drums compress em perhaps? i usually aint into the jump up stuff but deffinately diggin this one nice up

Thanks for the feedback JBE! I agree with you on your points, but have gotten pretty stuck with it. Have thought about introducing a few wobblez just to break it up a bit at certain points but not sure. It's also why I introduce the higher-pitched bassline towards the end of the track.

I gotta say though, your track amazes me. It's one of those choons that makes me think (which is what I try to do with my own). It has so much atmosphere and direction it sounds great :)

Your drums are spot-on, the intro is both deep and rewarding. If I had to say anything, I would say that the kick and snare sounds a bit too muted? Beautiful reverb use as well :) First breakdown breaks up the track quite nicely. Nothing bad to say other than the kick/snare :)

@tek_selecta dude im totally stoked on this track. when i saw alicia keys i thought "wow totally gay" but then after giving it a listen i think its awesome. i would suggest however instead of having the low pitched wobble bass to try just some big sine sub line w/o the lfo. or maybe some combo of the two. switching it up here and there.

@adamc thanks for the feedback man, i took what you said to heart and tried to get the drums a little more powerful by resampling the kick and eqing the snare. About your track; the quality is really good. you've done a good job arranging things in a way that avoids crowding and frequency conflict. (something i need to work on) however i will say it can get kinda boring. its quite repetitive. which i know is common in dance music so it may be what your going for. i dunno. also i might reccomond trying a bit more release or sustain on the main synth.

@ajfa awesome track man. kept my attention all the way through. As far as constructive criticism goes i might say the main bass line could be even more in your face and intense sounding. it already sounds awesome but if i could wave a magic wand and make something in the track even better thats what i would do. hopefully that makes some sense. if not let me know and ill try to elaborate.

@JBE dude sweet track. if i can offer any criticism i would say the drums could be louder punchier and heavier. the break between 1:22 and 2:16 seems kinda long for my taste also. but i do think this track could benefit greatly from some huge sounding drums. but i really like the track even as is.

@DannyDubstep Awesome track man. sorry but i can't really come up with any criticism. i've listened to your track a couple times and i think it sounds great as is. i think its over my head. but if you don't mind me asking a question, how much gain reduction do you use on your kicks with the compressor? i had my threshold set to about -3db on the kick track then like -2db on the drum group track. would you say thats too much/too little?

Okay so here's my track with a bit fatter kick, and some adjustments to the mix. i've yet to heed danny's suggestion on distorting the snare and eqing the drum group because i haven't seen that until just now. but ill be giving that a go. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

@gimpy
intresting stuff, i like the drums, though the bass is a bit out of tune to the actal melody
i think it would sound better if you just kept the bass as a sine instead ? depends what vibe your going for really but it doesn't really seem to fit with the track that well.

@dubsleazy
nice track really like the vibe you're going for there, not sure what i could say to add to the track, its really nice :)

@billy crystal meth
its interesting what you've done on the track, i would say that it would be good if you made it clearer when the sections of the song were changing like maybe use reversed cymbals between the 8 bar sections?

I just typed out a shitload and had it all erased :? , so excuse me if I'm brief.

Swanwickk: Sick stuff. Only suggestions I have would be maybe add in some fast, shuffely hi-hats to the middle of the first bass drop (so around like 2:00). I think that would really help move it along. Good work, man, for sure. Diggin the sub work alot.

@Rainbo: Theres some really good ideas in here, but I think the whole track needs a new EQ makeover. Everythings just kinda washed out and melding into each other, ya know? I know, I'm being a bit hipocritical. Shit. Also, I think the fluttering flute arpeggio thing can come down in volume a bit. It's repetitive, and the repetetiveness won't take away from the track if it's a bit quieter, IMHO.

@Tek Selecta: Dude, good stuff, for sure. Sub sounds so nice. I think the intro can be quite a bit shorter, however. I like the drop too much to have to wait a minute and a half before! Haha. Also, some high frequency open hi-hats would work out well in this track, methinks. Seems like it just needs a little high-end fwsssshhhhhhhh.

Alright, This track is no where near done, but I wanna hear what yall think so far. I have alot to add still (guitar, some lyricless vocals, hi-hats) but this is the main jist. After the first "break" (I GUESS it's a break) I wanna make it alot more dancey and chopped up, but I can't do that until I get some stuff recorded. Also, ending is totally temporary.

jimbeaux wrote: @reignz- which track were you talking about? I'm a total noob at production so hearing feedback from someone whos tracks are the shit is awesome!

your money track is big man!! i really dig it, and the break beat touch is really nice. :Q:
I think it was your tune , the last one on page 40. it just sounded like a bunch of random stuff thrown together to me, structure is a big part of dubstep and all electronic music really, try to buildup to 32 , drop it at the start of you 33rd bar and then work in bars of 4 or 8 to make stuff not sound so random :)

- blazinaidan : i like it, kick & sub are hitting deep. im missing some sort of melody , like something recognizable throughout the tune. also it's far from done structural-wise so try to work on that too

- Swanwick : quite a different approach than i'm used to see around here, i really liked the choir vocals , just at the drop, you could go down one note with them, like right before your kick hit. imo it'll give a better result but i might be wrong. Also try to bring some extra elements in the rest of your tune , like you did with that break part, seriously genious :)

- rainbo : not quite what i expected, the atmosphere you create towards the drop is heavy and imo would fit better with a deep sub drop and slow 1/2 wobbles , atleast to start with. also i can hardly hear your bass, it's way too quiet. Drums need some work too.

- tek_selecta : too much going on after the drop for me, it just doesn't fit right with the vocals. try less drums , and your smoothen your sub abit. the sub is nice but could use some gentle movement in it if you get what i mean :) but the main thing you should change , imo , are the drums.

- ajfa : damn man , i don't have alot to say to this. your snare could be better but that's all i can say really... epic tune

- JBE : i LOVE your verb on the drums, fits right into what you got going there. I'd work abit in the mids/highs with soft delayed keys to get another dimension to your tune , but that's all i can really say , loving it :)

- Danny : Imo i'd start with adding some mids/highs , it be basses , it be pads/leads. Also your sub in your intro is fatter than after your drop, that doesn't really make sense :D Also your clap could use some layers (imo). But it's a good start

- Mars : not bad, tho im not 100% feeling the drop , it kinda came too sudden. also try varying your bass sound from time to time, always the same bass gets repetitive very fast

And cheers for the massive amount of feedback folks, I took everyone's advice except for the part of leaving out the breaks :p

@abcgle: cool tune, maybe the bass could do with a bit more processing?
@tek_selecta: smooth tune! nice use of samples
@chicken: nice rhythm, i like the variation youve got goin on there

heres a tune i started on today, still need to vary up the bass patterns a bit but here it is so far:

Got an hour or so to make some updates to it. Thanks for feedback on it. Will be coming back with some more once I get my computer back.

I took some advice from the commenters. Layered in another kick I was working on. Added a few transitional effects/sounds. Redid the beat and added some more variation to it. Added some more automation....etc etc.

[EDIT]: Looks like the widget hasn't been updated with the new upload. Should be fine on soundcloud if you use the link.

Thanks for the FB, will definitely look into that, and even though I'm not really fond of the wubbles, your WIP is really nice, especially like that intro. Only thing i didn't like is there's that really quiet bassline that creeps in during like the last bar or 2 of the intro, right before the drop. I'd get rid of that, but I could be talking out of my ass

#mars Love the intro... very groovy. sweet ass drop too! I like it alot, switch-up was good. but I dont know. it feels like something is missing? or maybe its just oo similar to other dubstep tracks. it was a good production but maybe you can imagine what I mean.

#dannydubstep I don't know what to say. I think the track is perfect. I'd definatly have this in my ipod (if I could) :P

#Twisted Psykie I really like this track too. Sucha good chill wibe. I totally support your way of mixing and your using of percussion. although, I would change the arpsynth. It doesnt fit imo :/ and the melody kinda goes out of line sometimes. I'd love to hear the final product though! cheers

just wanted some feedback on this little clip here. posted a hasty prview before, and now I have been working some on the bass and the drop. post any feedback on soundcloud! cheers

Just a small clip for you to crit today, trying to get stuff signed at the moment so being careful with what I put up cos people told me not to put full versions of tunes pon soundcloud like. Anyways, unfinished and I've cut out the intro and main lead synth sections in favour of showing you the heavier part of the tune cos I know that's what folks like round these parts.

Soundcloud

@superginger - Really like the intro, lovely sounds and the arpeg in the background works wonderfully with the melody line. When it drops it's not *as* good but still quite cool.

@JBE - Your drums sound a little quiet in the mix but I like the pattern you've got going and the samples used. Very nice atmospheres it's got good vibes. Nice work on the synthesis and really it's just a good tune overall. Not much I can say about it really, nice to chill to man. Like the piano at 3.20ish.

@Maxtone - tune isn't working for me :s even when I click the soundcloud link.

@reignz - I like the breaks personally XD pretty sick tune you've got going here. Personally I think you've come a long way in the last few months with your production. Didn't used to rate your stuff much if I'm honest but this tune is pretty nice. A lot of the people that post in these feedback threads should take lessons from you on how to make 'brostep' without just putting random sounds together and hoping they sound good. Even if it's filth it still has to all be in key, dunno why so many people struggle with that but you've definitely got some musicality in the filth there backing it up. Crit wise I'd say the mixdown sounds a bit metally if that even makes sense?? could be because of a lack of lower mid definition?? Also your drums still need work, got the kick and the snare down completely but your hats...they suck lol

@chicken: so far over my head, I've got no criticism. Loving it....

@abcgle: not feeling the intro as much, but the breakdown and drop are great. The outro too. Mix it down son...

@quasy: It's not so bad mate! Not the biggest fan of the main bass sound that comes in at 1:33, but the notes are great and the bit you play around it a little later I love.

@reignz: don't touch the breaks. The breaks are money. love this track. Again, way over my head. But lovin it.

@mars: Loving the part where it doubles up toward the end. Not loving the repetition of the bassline throughout tho. Meh, but that's me...

@united fruits: funky, if a bit cheesy... Not to fault you tho, quite nice for a stoned keyboard jam really...

And, here's this. Been working on it for a minute. It's a bit short, and sorta schizophrenic what with the speed up slow down bits, but, lemme know whatcha think.
