Kode 9's set at WHP and the general vibe of the night.

Post by upadeg » Sat Oct 30, 2010 12:08 pm

I really want to keep this constructive and im fully aware that all djs have off nights, but kode 9 playing a housey set? I understand he likes to do things different, but i feel somewhat short changed when i get up at 6 in the morning to spend 5 hours on a bus to go see kode 9 play pon de floor. With the amount of dubs this guy is exposed to you'd think his sets would be right outside the box, but last night, unfortunatly, it wasn't.

Also if anyone attended, what did you think of the vibes? I saw alot of aggy stnuc trying to mosh to joy orbison. JOY ORBISON ffs! Im guessing its the status of the venue, attracting posers and casual ravers who dont really understand the music and just go out to get fucked and hook up with a girl/boy.

I know its a rant but i felt i needed to get it off my chest.
Another instance that shows that dubstep is attracting what i like to call "stnuc"

Thanks

where have you been the past two years? I haven't been to a cuntlless dubstep for years :h: .

Feel bad for you that you had a bad night out, but if you see hyperdubs output as of late, kode9 playing a lot of house is not a surprise.

the vibe in there seems to get worse each year to many people in there for my liking, also in the 2nd room why have they put the dj right high up so you cant even see them all you can see is some fuck off wall covered in lights, for all we know they could just have a fucking ipod on

What I saw of Kode 9 he was mainly playing Grime. Thought he was pretty good but overall the night was so-so, the sound system really was badly thought out-really boomy and lacking in sub. Yeah and alot of stnuc, but that's wearhouse.

Its not so much the fact that its house either. Im all for different styles, but there was nothing different about the tunes he was playing. To me it was just a generic funky house set with a bit of burial and terror danjah thrown in at the end to keep the purists happy.
And at the end of the day he has no excuse to play pon de floor. NONE WHAT SO EVER.
But it is kode 9,and as a label manager and as a producer i have alot of respect for him. Its just a shame when a dj doesnt meet their potential.
Maybe a set at a fwd night or a dmz may restore my faith!

umm ok went to one of these in 2006 or 07 - i can't rememeber. de la soul were playing amongst others. i remember the sound system was shite.probably not a good one to judge kode 9 on as there's loads of different heads, and everyone's off their face

It was absolute bullshit considering the amount of stnuc there were. I was at the front for Magnetic Man and it was fucking insane, people were purposely pushing one another right at the front, what the fuck is all that about!? Had to move myself towards the back otherwise I probably would of hit someone. Hugely dissapointing and ruined the Magnetic Man set.

I quiet enjoyed Kode 9's set and I'm glad half the fuckers left after Magnetic Man so there was more space! I have never been so pissed off at a music night out, it was my first time going to the Warehouse Project and it was a very mixed affair. The impression that I got from the Warehouse Project is that a lot of people just want to get fucked up, more so than other music events, it ain't even about the music for them and girls just fucking jumping on the music bandwagon and trying look stylish and cool.

Thankfully by the time DMZ came on a majority of the pricks had already left.

Sounds like the last Rinse bday. Room 1 - Butterz then Yunx...nice vibes. Then Geeneus comes on and it get s bit rowdier....Katy B comes on and people are moshing. Fuck that. Then Plastician was on after and it got compeletely out of hand...time to head for Room 2.

Moshing at a dance night makes you a tnuc. You wanna mosh...go to a hardcore gig.

Such a shame about this one...coz this WHP thing has line ups that would make it the ultimate night. Always people there to ruin it.
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

I was going to post something about this so thanks upadeg for bringing this up
I was excited about kode9 (didn’t even realise that Joker wasn't playing - was he a last min replacement? - although I did notice on Jokers MySpace that this night wasn’t an appearance) as I was hoping he would bring it down to a more skanking vibe but I agree with all of the above about it being a let down and very housey -

It was far too busy - we got there at just after 11 and it was rammed got progressively worse, there was a massive empty when magnetic man finished but it was still hammered

mala, coki and pokes were quality, especially when horrid was dropped and the lights came on but the system was shit

agree the crowd has gotten worse every year and far to aggy but not too many options when most of the good nights are on a school night, I realise there is obviously a huge student market in Manchester but does anyone agree we need more options on a weekend - factory and hit and run seem to be pulling in some quality line ups but they are a Monday and a Thursday night......

good to see digital but the crowd was awful
